* NoVa Fun Run #3 Postponed Until 11/24 *
Gentleman -
I have just sent the following e-mail to everyone who was on the distribution list for the Northern Virginia Fun Run #3 originally scheduled for tomorrow (11/17): Well the votes are in and it looks like we will be postponing the run until next Sunday, 11/24. Of the 22 votes cast, 3 were for still doing it tomorrow, 12 were for 11/24 and 7 were for either date (but of those 7, 3 had a preference for 11/24). From a safety standpoint this is probably the best decision because we all do enjoy pushing our cars and driving rather spiritedly. I do feel bad for the 3 people (Richard, Bill and Tom) that preferred tomorrow because they already have other plans for 11/24 and therefore won't be able to make it. Thanks again for your patience and involvement with this run. I do believe that the route will be worth the wait and one week from tomorrow we will be hanging around the parking lot exchanging grins and telling plenty of stories about what we experienced on the road. BTW, the meeting time and location will remain the same and I look forward to seeing everyone that can make it on the 24th. Regards, Doug

Oh, NoVa is Northern Virginia. When I first saw this I thought who the hell is driving to Nova Scotia in winter and why?
![]() Virginia is a beautiful state, I'm sure you'll have fun. |

Doug--
I'm sure a lot of people are disappointed, but it's actually a break for me--I'm down with the flu. I had been really psyched for the run and therefore pretty down until I logged on to tell you I couldn't make it, and saw your post right at the top. Unless this bug is ebola I'm good for next week. Thanks for your great effort (as usual) in organizing this thing. Believe me, it would have been ugly if I saw a brown Targa the way I'm feeling now. ![]()

Good Call
Doug,
Good call moving it to next week. I drove up to Springfield area this afternoon in the rain. Rain was steady, traffic was miserable, Targa top leaking as I suspected, wipers stunk (found another thing I need to address), windows were foggy (dispite my continuous fooling with my heater/defog controls). Tomorrow would have probably been the same. Good news out of it all though. I was concerned that my engine would run poor with all the water (didn't like my first washing at all). Guess the new plug wire set fixed that problem. Still had the pre-ignition problem when I get on it. I adjusted my timing tonight after I got home. Will check out next dry day. Hopefully this will correct it. The sound makes me feel like I'm chewing up my already high mileage engine, keeping me off the pedal. The delay gives me another week to address. Thanks man, we will get there. Gordo

Hey Gordo2 - foggy windows are always a problem for me - but I just flip the AC on low, along with the heater/defroster, and the windows will clear up and stay that way.
See you next Sunday. Chuck |

I'm with you guys, it just wouldn't be the same with this weather! I'll try to make it up there next weekend! On the other hand it would be a great day for a Subaru all-wheel drive fun run in a big muddy field! He-He

I am trying not to get too excited (ie checking the weather forecast every 12 hours since last Sunday) but right now it sure does seem that everything will be a go for this Sunday.
As it stands now the expected participant count stands at 30 (4 people had to back out and a new person has signed up). T minus 62 hours ... Ryan - we sure could use your video "expertise" over here on the East Coast. If you leave now you could probably make here in time for the start ![]()

I have to give credit to my cameraman, Jeff. He had a hard time holding on and getting the footage on the way up. At one point he had to abandon the filming to hold on for fear of loosing the camera or falling out of the car. Who knew you put that much side load on a passenger by just doing the speed limit. ![]() I would love to join you guys, sounds like a great run is in store for you. I will be going to the 2nd annual Turkey Run up the Angeles Crest Hwy. I’m hoping my cameraman will be able to join me so we can post another video. Have Fun and be safe!

Dammit Ryan, take your compliments when they come!
Your vid was outrageous, and even better with the choice of the Director's sound track or the bootleg mix from NoStatic Studios. Rocked! There's a real chance for an east coast guy to step up here. Can't have those artsy left coasters upstaging us. Where's the budding race film director we need???

Tony - I rigged the video camera for Fun Run #2 to shoot out the rear window (via a tripod mounted with bungy cords in the rear seat) but unfortunately my camera is not digital so I can't run it through any PC programs. Some of the footage came out great while other parts were a bit rough (due mainly to the sun).
I think Ryan's idea of a passenger shooting the video is the best because then they can always focus on the action. Maybe someone who might have a person riding shotgun can give this a try for us this time. For this run I will leave the video camera on the passenger seat so that when we hit the two lane roads I can catch everyone coming by me! PS - at least we should take the west coasters on number of participants ![]()

Doug,
I'll have a passenger riding shotgun with a still and video camera. And Tony, he'd like to consider himself a budding film director. I think I'll volunteer him for the job! The price he pays for weighing down my car. ![]() Greg

Just out of curiosity Doug, How many guys did you have for NoVa #1 & #2?
The first run I started had seven. I was just hoping that I would have one person show up to drive with. Until then I had never driven w/ another P-car and that’s after having mine for five years. I couldn’t believe it when we had 19 show up for BBRII. Now you have @30! I’m just wondering how many I might expect next time. Still, if just one guy shows up to drive with me I’ll be happy.

Ryan - For FR #1 I had 8 say they were coming and all 8 showed up. For FR #2 15 of 17 showed up (one absence due to illness while the other I never heard from). I am thinking that realistically we will have around 25 for FR #3 (from the total of 34 who originally said they'd show) but this is just a guess. Sunday morning at 7:30 am we will know for sure!
Greg - I'll also have my 35mm and digital cameras with me. By now I have perfected the art of picture taking while driving. Some of my best shots have come from focusing on the driver's side rear view mirror and shooting the cars behind me. As far as your passenger goes, shooting video is a small price to pay for being a part of NoVa history ![]()
