Sound Pad install tutorial

Anyone have a link for installing an engine compartment sound pad for an 88 911 Carrera.

My new sound pad just arrived yesterday and I'll be installing it in my 88 as well, probably next weekend. I got the App Biz Ultimate one. It looks very high quality. Hopefully someone will provide some tips.

Edit: I removed the airbox on the right and the heater stuff on the left.

Somewhere I read in a post that one must drop the engine slightly to fit the "ultimate pad" into place.

NOT TRUE. My mechanic and I did it with patience in my '73 911T. We did remove the air box and protruding items to facilitate the job.

BTW, it must have made some difference in sound abatement but it was not obvious to me. Don't get me wrong, it's not a ripoff - the old one was torn & falling apart and looking shaggy if nothing else.

There are soom good write-ups in the review section for the sound pads. First, of course, you need to scrape off the remnants of the old pad and grab and vacuum up the crumbled foam. Then remove the airbox on the passenger side and the heater/blower fan assembly on the driver's side. Now you can test fit the pad. You will need to cut a slot so you can fit the pad around the hood shock and bracket. Use 3m weatherstrip adhesive to make a criss cross pattern on the side of the pad that will stick to the firewall and carefully slide it in. Good luck!

Depends on the engine. No way I could've done it with the engine in place on my '83. All the CIS stuff makes it impossible to maneuver.

I wrote up my method with pics several years ago. No engine drop needed. Just some good planning, some parts removal, and a little contortionalizm.

I did it on the 83 with my most of the parts in place. I remember walking away with scratched up arms
