Randy that is a great car as everyone has already indicated in the other posts. I am really glad you put in $ for us to see how much a great car can cost. Thanks

I'm partially color blind, so hard to describe...but with a period hood emblem, which is NLA, the reds in the crest will be more orangish, and the finish will be smooth. In the replacement emblems the reds in the crest are more purplish, have a "pebbled" finish. Once you learn the difference, it's easy to spot. Another hint..if an early car you're thinking of buying sports a replacement emblem? A possible clue that it's been damaged in the front, so look deeper if you see a replacement emblem.

Good advice from Paul. The hood emblem shown in the Excellence article is actually a reproduction of the original early 911 "period correct" Porsche crest hood emblem, which is correctly described by Paul. I believe these are still available from Best Deal in Anaheim, phone 714-995-0081. There are some very slight differences from an original one, but only visible side by side.

Randy..you sneaky devil! The photo in the EXCELLENCE piece had me fooled. Tomorrow, will take the article out to the garage, place it near an emblem that the factory placed there in '72. Gawd, trivia is fun! Didn't know that repops of the original were being made...thanks for the info.

Stoddard (www.*************) also sells a nice repro of the early 'orange' hood crest.

I put the Stoddard repro on my car, recently. The old one was a new factory one that I'd gotten when I had the car repainted. I never gave it a thought until the R Gruppe thing in Cambria. Suddenly noticed that my badge didn't look quite right.

Yeah John, I don't think I'd drive the car anymore until replacing it!
