Squeak squeak..I did search, no help.
I have a squeak coming from the rear of the car. It is consistent with wheel speed, not engine speed. It only occurs under non-load conditions. When I push in the clutch or slow down it starts, It goes away under load. I just put the engine back in the car. New clutch, flywheel machined, new CV joints with schnoor washers, new pads and rotors. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Ha - The Glass City. Where I grew up. Dad's brother lived in St Clair Shores. It's a tangled web. As a kid drove to Windsor to buy bigger firecrackers. You could still get M-80's in the early 70's. The ones that can remove a chunk of hand from a stupid kid. :-)
Wayne may be on to something. However, I can't picture where load would make brake shoes be quiet. There are only a handful of parts that spin at wheel RPM. Even if CV joints were bolted down in a "wonky" manner, there should be plenty of fresh grease to stifle a squeak. However, this is my best guess as to the culprit. Let's say you bent the backing plate on the brakes. That is a scraping sound if rubbing on rotor. Not a squeak. Only squeak I ever heard out of the rear end was the right side wheel bearing. Even if the issue, why would load change it? |
OK, I'll pull the rear wheels and check park break and wheel bearings and CV joints. Thanks.

My son graduated from UT. He spent a couple of years there. He liked it.
