Question Engine Sound normal to you guys?

Have not been able to dive my 911 much this year, and finally took it out for a nice long drive today. She was running great, but I wasnt sure when I was sitting at a red light or just stopped and idling if the engine "ticking" sounded louder than it should be. I know its normal to hear some, but how much?

Any way I took a short video of the car idling in the driveway.

Sorry its upside down for some reason, but you get the idea.

All feedback would be appreciated!

how old are the ignition parts? couldnt hurt to renew the plugs, cap, rotor etc

the car was very warm had just driven home from work in it, was running for about 30 minutes.

Plug wires are only a few years old and the plugs too.

I always sounds a bit lumpy I think due to the B & B exhaust system. (cat bypass etc)

I've read that Marvel Mystery Oil, which is an ATF based solvent, added to the crankcase can cure sticky valves/tappets.
You can also try adding it to the gas.

If your O2S, is still plugged in, it will be a little lumpy by 50RPMS. It is the O2S doing it job by going rich/lean.

Sounds good....I've listened to many diff ac 911's and some really strong running cars have their own special noises...ticking specifically. Each motor has it's own harmonics for whatever reason.

I believe it is mostly harmonics based upon numerous unique variables that bring the sound the the surface.

Mine has always had a louder tick on the right bank (4-6) before and after a proper tune up.....it just 'is'. Runs like a champ, burns 8 oz. of oil in 3k miles and runs cool in 110 degree ambient temps. Been this way for thousands of miles.

Draco, yes, I have my 02s sensor plugged. Actually put a new one in about 2 years ago.

Should I not use it?

Sounds fine to me !

I believe the "ticking" sound are the valves.
However, I've never heard them from inside the car.

Keep O2 sensor intact. Taking liberty to respond before Draco replies.

In the later SC's there is absolutely no reason to remove them. None. O2 is used for cruising and idle. Mash the pedal and it is switched off from the system.

Thanks Dr. BK,

Yes, I concur, keep it plugged in, it helps keep your Cat clean and our environment :-P. If you are Catless, then it really does not matter but it will kill your sensor so either plug it or use old one as a plug, old spark plugs work too. Your buddy behind you will not be so happy smelling the fumes though
