Post Rubber Mirror Surround?

On the standard flag style mirrors as found on the early '80's 911's, there's that black rubber-like surround. Is that available as a separate item?

If it's just faded and not necessarily damaged, Mother's Back to Black does a nice job of bringing out shine and color to the finish of the surround.

Just thought that might help.

Can it be removed to paint the mirror base?

So in order to replace the rubber piece, the whole mirror motor must be replaced.......

I'm afraid to ask how much that might be.

Buy a used one, plenty of people have fitted the later type mirrors. Try Porsche Pano or similar.
