Boxster seats in 84 911? Help?

Anybody know if manual Boxster seats will bolt into a 1984 911?

I need to drive my 84 slant nose to determine how much mechanical stuff it needs before its stripped for a glass out paint job.
I removed the GT2 sport seats because:
1) I hated them.
2) The driver side track was frozen so I could not operate the pedals safely.

I can get Porsche Boxster seats locally through a dismantler. Unable to drive my car there to test fit them and they do not allow returns if they dont fit.

I tried various combinations of "search" on here and Google and did not find an answer.

Thanks for any help.

I can't think of any reason as to why the would, besides the word Porsche, but I find myself curious about the answer...I will eventually be replacing the seats in my '84, and I have little interest in maintaining originality of form/function.

That said, the stock 911 seats are good...Why not source a pair of those?

I am looking. But the ones available need to be shipped in, redone and are expensive. Local dismantler has clean manual Boxster seats that are 10 minutes from me. Ill see if I can make a floor template and take them to the seats this week. Otherwise will buy a set of seats to restore from a Pelican member that has offered.

Hi, I have Cayman seats in my 911, and they fit. However, the rails have a little protruding thing that is intended to be inserted into a notch in the platforms that the rails rest on. The PO drilled holes in the platforms to accommodate the protruding things. I really like the seats, but a wish the backs didn't stick up so high.

I put Boxter Sport seats in my 964 Had to do some work to attach to floors and they sit a few inches higher than original seats , the seat rails themselves are a few inches longer than 911.

Once you set them down you will see that you need to bend a bracket on the boxter seats front mounts and drill a hole in the rear portion of the seat rail (not the car) to bolt it to the original mount

I assume the 84 has same type of seat mounting, easily strippable hex head screw to metal plate that slides in the mounting frame

I have Boxster seats in my '75 911. Boxter seat rail modification is exactly like 964TargaC2 describes above. Here are a couple relevant threads:

How to Install Boxster Seats in an 74 911 (using original sliders)

Boxster seats in an 82SC?

The seat bottoms do become higher than the stock seats.

Thank you all very much ! "search" feature did not find these threads! My drivers seat on the GT3 seat has a bad rail. So I may need to buy 911 seat rails either way it seems. Option 1 is buy Boxster seats this week. 2 is buy nice used 911 seats that need restoration. Local interior guy wants $1300 to do 2 seats in leather. Vinyl may be less. These "GT3 euro seats may be replicas, as i cannot find info on Porsche Motorsports seats thus far.

Thanks for the help.

Another thought: You might see if a local Pelican has a seat you can install temporarily and then drive the thing to the dismantler to check out the fit of the Boxster seats.

I agree that the search feature could use some work. I created a custom Google search for the Pelican 911 forum that I've used for a few years. I'll post that in the forum for others.

So the order I had in for Boxster seats from the dismantler fell through.

Can someone post if the seats I have are replicas or Genuine Porsche?

They look like euro GT2 seats ??? But have no white Porsche part number stickers, just the black and gold gel stickers that look fake to me.

Thanks.

I think 944 seats from the same era are the same as 911 ones & probably a whole lot cheaper and easier to find too.

The 84 has the old style seats and old style floor fixtures.
The seat belt still bolts to the center tunnel not the seat as in 85 and on.
The 85 seats in an 84 will sit higher, as would most others of the later style.
When I did later seats in the old 83 the noticable thing was the headrest being higher to the top of the roof, not how the seat sat.

hard to tell a value..are there any other markings other than the "Badge"? Should be a Recaro sticker if they are real...if they are replicas, probably $500.00 tops delivered....but that is just an opinion.

I think your seats might be replicas, I have a couple of sets of factory ones and the differences I can remember are:

- Porsche logo should be embossed top center in the leather
- Stitching is different on the back cushion
- Stickers with 996. part numbers, I've never seen a badge like yours before

I would guess they're worth $500ish, you can do a search for replice gt3 seats.

This is a picture I found in which you can see some of the differences:

Another giveaway is the embossed "Recaro" stamp in the leather on the back of the headrest. Many of the replicas do not have this.

There was a FS thread on the used parts forum a few years ago where someone unknowingly sold a pair of replicas. I seem to remember it having some good detail shots of what to look for. Edit: Link. Bottom of page three has a cached view of the original ad.
