There's a V notch directly on top of the trans bellhousing where you can stick a long skinny screwdriver through to make an adjustment to the fork so it slips onto the TO bearing properly. You're looking at it over the top of the engine. There's also a hole @10 o'clock on the bellhousing where you can use a mirror and flashlight to check that it did line up. If it didn't, just back off the engine a bit and readjust the fork. No real need for a helper. I have a cheap plastic protractor that is useful to measure the angle of the bellhousing as it hangs down so you can adjust the angle of the engine to match, with the angle adjuster on your ATV or other style adjustable jack, so the mainshaft splines enter the clutch disc easier. E/brake on and trans in gear keeps the mainshaft from turning, which helps too.
