Thanks Nick for your help. Turned out to be a loose casing throughbolt, so I replaced the 'O'ring and re-torqued. It would have stopped leaking once the casing expanded when hot. I replaced the seals with an extra set that I got from you at the same time. I checked my thermostat at the same time and it wouldn't even open at 290 degF so will replace that too.
