Squeaky front shock

I was driving home tonight when I noticed my passenger side, front shock making a racket. Both shocks feel fine, but the one is making a loud squeaking noise when driving. Parked it, pushed down and sounds like sheat.

Please don't tell me I need new shocks--any quick remedies?

Are you sure it is your shock and not the standard torsion bar/control arm bushing squeak? The front torsion bars are known to squeak. Especially if you go to larger bars. In the summer up here in the NW, my car sounds like an old ford truck when I hit a bump.
If it's the torsion bar/control arm squeak, get used to it. I've heard there control arm bushings are not easily replaced.

I'd second that.

I've never heard of a squeaky shock. Front end squeaks are normally one of the following:

- Poly bushings

- Torsion bar rubbing due to worn control arm bushings

- Sway bar bushing

I'll add one to Chuck's list:

- Torsion bar rubbing due to adjuster cap wearing into crossmember.

I explained the cause and the solution in this torsion bar squeak thread.

Thanks for the replies. But "getting used to it" is probably not going to happen. I have got to figure out a way to fix it. Too nice of a car to sound like an old ass pickup truck.

OK, this is weird. Just as suddenly as it started, it stopped. There was a temperature swing from very warm to a bit cooler.

Damn, these cars are weird.

Yep and THAT confirms Chuck's diagnoses.
