Who has installed a oil fan manual over ride switch?

The stock thermostat/temp auto switch is set from the factory higher than I like. Was thinking of using the in dash toggle switch for the headlight washer which is gone except for the switch.

Is the switch able to handle the load or should I replace it? Where do I cut into the fan wiring? Is it a good idea to remove the fan thermostat?

I know I can figure it out but always interested in what someone else has done.

you could wire that switch to control the fan motor, i would use a relay.
a better solution would be to get the right temp switch.
figure out what kind of switch is in there and then do some research on what you can use.
napa/echlin has a pdf online with all of the temp switches and their specs

It's very simple, the way I did it was to use the dash switch as an additional ground path to energize the fan relay, that way you have no worries about the switch having to carry much of a load.. I used a rear wiper toggle switch (in PP parts 911-613-321-01) that slides into the "open blank" hole behind the vinyl between the oil level gauge and the oil temp gauge. (you can feel the hole behind the vinyl) I am assuming you have a fan relay that the thermo/temp switch energizes. You just wire the switch to supply an additional ground to the relay.
On my '80SC I added a round black relay for the fan in a spare hole on the relay/fuse unit. The later cars should already have a fan relay.

here's a link to an override fan switch done like I referred to in my previous thread, starting at post#3:
oil cooler fan t'stat and switch installation

No need to do anything with thermo sensors etc!
