New Owner & Introduction

Last weekend I finally made the leap and purchased my first air cooled 911. Like some of you, I made the leap from air cooled VW's and look forward to learning more about these cars.

The car is a 1980 Weissach edition that I had a little previous knowledge about. It belonged to an old neighbor of mine (different state) who purchased it 10 years ago. At that time, he knew nothing about air cooled cars and asked me to test drive it for him. Fast forward to two weeks ago when I contacted him to see if he still had the car. He did and it had been sitting for a few years inside his place of business. We cut to the chase and made arrangements to see the car. I left the house on a Friday, with trailer in tow, made a deal Saturday morning and had it loaded before 10am.

Other than changes to the interior colors and fuel injection, the body, paint, and wheels are original and in very good condition. When I drove it 10 yrs. earlier, it had the Doric grey seats and red carpet but, now has light tan leather with black carpet/dash.

The CIS system was switched to carbs before my neighbor bought the car. That bothered me at first until, following some research, realized the carbs are 40IDS 3C. After draining 15gals of antique gas from the tank, I was able to get it fire up but wouldn't remain running due to plugged jets and damaged accelerator pump diaphrams. So, the carbs are off for a tear down and rebuild.

Plans are to get it running, make it safe, and enjoy it. The original paint is in great condition and I don't mind the authentic road character on the front end. However, something as simple as new tires appear to be a challenge.

Thanks for listening.
