Exhaust Straps - different lengths?

Just a simple question.
I am replacing my standard rear silencer/muffler for a stainless one.

I am refitting it and I've noticed one of the staps is longer then the other - is this right?

I can't seem to get the longer of the two to be tight fit round the exhaust? Have I got them the wrong way round?

Are they meant to be like this?

Thanks in advance.

Richard

Thank you, I guess I should have checked before I took it off really.

I could just try and swap them over now I know they are meant to be different lengths.

Thanks

Yes, for the '84-89 Carrera the muffler straps are different lengths. The right side one is longer.

Thank you for your help.
I'll bear that in mind. Any ideas as to why one is longer then the other?
I hadn't noticed the rear box to be wider at any one point?

Any thoughts?

Richard,

Assuming the rest of your exhaust is stock, there is an air control/heater tube that connects the exchangers at the rear on a Carrera, unlike previous factory exhausts. The reason for the different factory strap lengths is that one strap loops over this tube, requiring a slightly longer strap, and the other does not.

Good luck,
Tim

That makes sense - I haven't got round to fitting that piece yet but not that you mention it I can picture how it fits.

Many Thanks
RIchard
