How to replace fuel pressure regulator

Hi Everyone,
I have a 1986 Carrera wide body with 3.2 engine (no turbo) and need to replace fuel pressure regulator that is in the back of the engine on driver's side. space is very tight and need advice as to how to get at it.
Thanks,
Bruce

Short of dropping the engine, you could consider a partial drop, or remove the intake.
I removed the intake when I replaced the fuel lines, intake gaskets and insulators (isolators), oil thermostat o-ring, throttle bell crank springs, oil switch, and crankcase vent gasket, and all vacuum lines.
It involved removing the air filter, heater blower, throttle body, and some other things. I used the bentley manual, kept track of what I did and the order I did it, and I bagged and labeled all hardware.

This is a very simple job " you only need to remove the blower nothing else
I forget the exact wrench sizes but just get some cheap wrenches cut them into shorties
And you'll be done in less than an hour. The volvo regulator is much cheaper and exact match.

this is as complicated as changing plugs,

Whoa Volvo? do you hav a part # Brother AVDCAV?

I found it easier to do a partial drop, disconnect the shift coupler and drop her about 4-6 inches then you can actuall rach for the side wheel well and get the proper torque to break that crazy nut open.

Much easier than trying from the top, there is absolutely no room. just did this on my buddy's 86. Take care not to damage that very expensive right angled rubber hose.

Jim

Hey, thanks guys. I'll try removing the blower approach first and if that doesn't work, do the partial engine drop. I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers,
Bruce

Have you ever done it?

Multiple times through the years seriously this is a simple job .
There is nothing special about the regulator or dampener that was used
no Porsche magic here, the Volvo one is exactly the same and the
Dampener is also.

Get some pads to kneel on and have at it , there in one little bracket that's a tad
Annoying that acts as a little stabilizer but its really no big deal.

Unscrew the bracket for the sensors also just for some added room.

It's a simple job as it involves wrenches. Very tedious in that you can only turn the nuts a small bit at a time and things need to line up perfectly when putting in the new one.

As easy as spark plugs? Maybe in a Ford F150.

It really is a simple job once I look back. My apologizes to AVDCAV if I sounded a little pricky.

Because you are doing it blind for the most part, I found a mirror handy just so I could get a grip of what is where.
