little smoke on start-ups

want to try an oil additive might help reduce smoke on startups - (it's #6 cylinder per having seen plug some time ago..) ;got some "Bardahl NoSmoke + Stop Leak" that sounds tempting - any comments as to possible effectiveness or issues from giving this stuff a try would be appreciated....'86 carrera cab with 68500, using Mobil 1 20W50. thanks
Dave

What color is the smoke? A little white smoke that stops after a few seconds is normal.

no, it's an oil smoke. only when having sat at least a full day or two. wish it was just a puff of condensation... have heard let it idle a minute before shutting off to reduce this occurrence but that really does not seem to work... rather kill them skeeters with my headlights..

ok guy - maybe I am worrying too much about it. has pretty much done it since I got it about 6 thousand miles/3 years ago. was hoping to see if anyone had tried a similar product with any positive results.

Try this.

Next time you come back from a drive of 30 minutes or more. Pull in, place the eBrake and let her idle for 1 minute before shut down. Do not blip the throttle.

Make sure the level on the dip stick does not go over 1/2 way mark when hot.

I found this will reduce the ploom to almost nothing. Strangely, when I am in a hurry and forget to let her idle for minute, the next day I get a ploom of smoke .

Oh yah, don't sweat it. The joy of an older car

I did what Draco suggested on my old 86 3.2, it helped quite a bit. Tim

Add one of these, which can be done with minimal skill and it will greatly reduce the problem. A little spendy but a quality product. Welcome to Rothsport Racing - Engine Products

And for gawk sakes don't dare install it backwards.

Totally normal . When you shut off the engine the oil drains into the bottom of the engine and coats the cylinder walls slightly. I just finished another engine rebuild and it smokes for about 30 seconds on start up as all the others I've done.
