Angry Cutting out - back with a vengeance!

As I write this, my car is being unloaded off of a tow truck, and I'm trying to regain my body heat (hint: maybe shorts are not year-round attire in NorCal)

I was stranded at the local shopping center. Stopped in to get some snackie cakes for my journey tomorrow, and the cat wouldn't start. Turns over seven ways to sunday, but won't start. I swapped the DME relay and fuel pump relays - nada. Jim Dupree, a local P-Wrench, stopped by and looked at it, but no ideas which were viable in the cold, dark with no tools. Him: "What's wrong?" Me: "It's dead, Jim" - I've been waiting for years to use that line!

Jim suggested I check the fuel pump relay socket when I got it home and in the light.

So I had it towed home - the irony is that it took longer just to load the car up than to drive it home - I was less than 1/2 mile from home. I almost coulda used the starter to drag it along...

Well, lets see.......

camshafts turned through 180° ?
distributor turned through 180° ?
fuel tank empty ?

More seriously, just start at the basics:
check for fuel (pull an injector)
check for spark (pull the distributor cap centre wire)
work from there, ckeck everything and don't assume the obvious.

Smells like a bad connection somewhere, coil, DME relay, fuel pump relay, all the engine wires to DME box, poor ground connections....

Good luck.

It could have been worse

I heard of a guy who was having a sleep in and his kids wanted a lift to school, he couldn't be bothered getting properly dressed so he got out of bed a put on his wifes dressing gown and drove the kids to school. The car wouldn't start again outside the school so he had to walk home wearing nothing but a womans dessing gown. Imagine being picked up by the police outside a school wearing nothing but a womans dessing gown. Gulp.
