the 1970 911T conversion 90% done
just thought I would post a few pictures of my 1970 911 T conversion. It is especially fitting since it looks like Jack is "killing" a car almost identical to the one I saved. Not that I think building a track car is a killing, as long as he parts out the original Black beauty and lets her live on in a manner of speaking.
So mnine is a 1970 T with a Carrera suspension, 3.2 L, and a 915. to refresh this was a pretty stock 911T, and I bought a 1985 targa and moved everything over, adding adjustable spring plates, hard bushings everywhere, and solving miss matched bits and pieces here and there. Has Bilstein HDs, and pagid orange pads. Left to do is -sort out the gas tank venting -hook up the heat -repair the e-brake -wire the new speedo -finish putting the red leather door panels but I am driving her around town now.. |

Having seen it in person, I can attest you've done a great job with the car.
Having also seen the donor '85 before it was damaged, it was a very nice car that unfortunately got crunched. Just don't show pictures of the remains, some people on this board are squeamish. ![]()

WOW WOW WOW....what a cool car!!!! The stance is dead nuts right! Are those 16x7 tucked under there? Factory flares? I have 16x6 on my 70S and I would like to lower it more.....but Im afraid of rubbing the inside of the fenders and screwing up the paint. How does it ride sitting that low? Not crazy about the high-back seats, but what a cool car!!! Love it!

A fine engineering job Addiction!
A mater of taste, but can you swap out those funny looking headlight rims for the regular type? Again well done and it's an extremly nice car, and must be fun to drive. |

I thought I would answer a few of the questions
Tires are: front 205/55/16 on 6" rims rear 225/50/16 on 7" rims I needed to put a lot of camber in the rears to get a fit, an I needed to roll the fender lips at all four corners I too think the high back seats are a little out of character, but this is going to be commuter and daily driver so I went for the comfort of the newer seats. The head lights are stock for a 1970, I have a set of H4s which I might put in, but these make the car look really original, maybe makes up for the seats :-) Finally the car is running great, it tips the scales at just over 2400lbs, seems pretty quick, and handles very well. Addiction,
Very nice looking car! I have a silver coupe, and I do covet your red interior...think that is a great combo, common in the 356 era, then rarely done in 911s for some reason... Are you in the San Jose area? Used to live there, thought I recognized the frame from Ken's Sportech... ![]()

Nice car- don't know how you managed to fit the 225 rear tires in?
Mine has 205's on the 7's at the rear and the PO had them too low and wrecked the new paint job ![]() He also tried to roll the fenders and cracked the paint then gave up by the look of things- that metal is hard! I would love to fit those tires- any idea how much camber you have? rgds Ben

Jim,
Looks great! Love those silver early cars. The 85 targa lives on in VA. The cut-out pieces are just about to be welded in this weekend. All the fit work is done but final assembly. Stay tuned. Jamie

Wow, 7's on the rear with 225's AND lowered, no flares! I've never seen that work before. Save this one in the archives for the next "can I fit these wheels..."

do the door panels have manual crank *and* power switches? Now *that* is a cool feature

a few more details,
I only have crank windows, the door panels have the squares cut in them for the power windows, not sure how I am going to cover that up, and the cranks are coming out of a hole designed for the smaller of the speakers a 1985 came with. Putting the late style door panels on the car was not easy, infact I still have to do the passenger door. It takes a lot of time and fiddling to get them working. The other reason I don't think I will put the power windows on the car, I would like to have them but weight and difficulty will most likely stop me. If memory serves me, here are the alignment specs front as much camber as I could get(over -1 for sure), as much caster as I could get, 1/8 toe out rear -1.5 degrees camber, and 0 toe the only ride height measurement I remember is from the ground to the bottom of the torsion bar housing, the round part that sticks through the bushings and makes a good place for a jack stand, was 9.5 inches, add ~1 degree of rake to get the front right and that is it. Looks fabulous. Some times you see on that just looks right and yours has got it. I think the red high backs look *****en.. They "throw attitude" some how. Didnt the early Euro cars come with H1s? I think the H4s would look great. You must put a duck tail on the car!!

Yaw! Sweet job! I am at the point in my restoration of my 73 911T that the car is primed and ready for the paint job. I love that paint job and would like to get the paint code form you. Is it metalic or not? I live in British Columbia so I promise not to park my car beside yours. As for the wheels. I heard that if they came form a 944 they are more off-set. Is that where yours are form.
Once again great job! NMCM |

I don't know the paint code, as far as I know it is an original Porsche silver from the 70s. The PO had the car repainted about 10 years ago, I have had the car for 8 years.
I will share one other bit of the history of this car, I have swapped the motor a few times. started with the original 2.2T with 901 (how I bought it) I drove it a lot, lots of fun, 1995. found and put in a 2.2E for a summer , still 901 (1998) I still drove it, even more fun, but I bought a 1988 Carrera, and that was the end of the willingness to live without more power. I tried to convince my wife this was now her car. But she did not like the temperamental nature of the carburetors. So she kept taking the 1988, and I was driving, should I say not driving the 911T Bought a 996 for me, so the wife could have the Carrera. But I did not feel good about the 911T being stranded with the 2.2E motor and never driven. found and put in a 2.7, still 901 (2000) once again tried to convince my wife it was her car to get the Carrera back as a daily driver, the 996 costs too much to flog in a commute. However she was having none of that. found and put in the 3.2 and the 915 (more power, 2002), now I have the commuter car, the 996 for those days wiehn I need to be in something new (carefully worded for the members here), my wife is happy and can now "girlize" the Carrera. I think I am done. So you can see it is a loved chassis, this time I did the full suspension as well, because it was there. I think (hope) the 3.2 is the final engine swap, it is a lot of work. I have three reasons not to go to a 3.6. My race car is 3.2, my 1988 Carrera is a 3.2, and now this is a 3.2. a lot of interchanable parts. Jim |

Any chance the original paint code is still visible on the plackard inside the door?
