Just curious what type of detaling products you folks use on your 911s or 912s?? I used Klasse and Pinnacle Paste Glaze for paint protection and shine.
Then use 303 Protectant on my tires and seals. What do you folks use? |

I use Groits Garage brand cleaners and polishes. It cost a little more, but it works better than any other I have tried. Except the tire polish, for that I use 303.

I like Sonax detergent, P21s wheel cleaner and paintwork cleaner. 3m glaze for deep swirls and compounding. Blitz one grand wax. Maguires one touch detail. Black again and Maguires mirror glaze for rubber. Lexol products for interior work.

Hello everyone.
I need a recommendation on which product to use to remove swirl marks. They are post-new paint job. I don't think they did the best job polishing it. also, where doe you purchase these items. thanks to you all. ps. It's a black 78SC Coupe Kyle. |

Check out Care Care Specialties. They advertised in Pano and Excellence. They sell most everything and have tips on what products they like and articles on "how to" for various jobs.

I use Mothers products. Have for years and years, no paint problems as long as you wax it every 3-4 months.
Granted since my 911 is a garage queen I wax it once every 6-8 months. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Region |

KMATS - I used 3M Imperial Hand Glaze for swirl marks. The stuff is incredible; easy on, easy off and all but the deepest swirl marks disappear and it leaves a nice deep gloss. I use Back to Black for black trim (including the Targa roll bar). Not as shiny as armor-all and takes more work but it lasts longer. Tip - use a soft cloth like they recommend or you take it right back off when you buff it out. Haven't settled on any tire products yet.

I'm also a Klasse AIO and SG user (non-wax paint protectant). It takes more time to apply, but it lasts about 6 months. Sometimes I top with Blitz wax b/c it deepens the color.
For swirl marks, 3M Imperial Hand Glaze is good but temporary. It fills in the swirls but doesn't actually remove them. If you put wax over it, it should last a few months. I use 3M Perfect It II with an orbital polisher to remove swirls. Produces better and quicker results than by hand, and it actually smooths out the swirls rather than just filling them in. One of the best things you can do, IMO, is to clay the car before polishing and waxing. It cleans the paint for a difference that you can see and feel. I use Mothers Clay, but there are other good clay products out there. I have heard bad comments about the Meguiar's clay though. Clay will NOT scratch your paint if you use it correctly, and it's VERY easy to use. |

Yes I agree Imperial Hand Glaze works excceltn for temporary use. After about 2 washes the scratches are back.
Use 3M Swirl Mark Remover or Finesse It Also if they are not really bad swirls try Klasse AIO |

Don't try that if you're wearing a skirt, MarkY.
![]() I use 3m Imperial Hand Glaze, which is actually a light polishing compound. It doesn't just fill in swirl marks, it actually removes them up to some odd microns in width. For wax, Mother's Carnuba paste. Liquid is the lazy man's way out. ![]() I use a nylon brush on my tires. No more sprays or Armor All for me. The tires look brand new all the time now. Try it sometime, it's great. ------------------ Mark Szabo 1986 911 Targa 3.2 1987 Escort 5-speed 1.9 RIP The Porsche Owners Gallery |

Hey Mark,
Maybe it depends on the size of the swirls, but in my experience 3M IHG just fills in the swirls. Here's something I tried once: I used IHG in one area to remove swirls, then used 3M Perfect It next to that (both applied by hand). In both areas, the swirls were cleaned up pretty well. THEN I went over both areas with rubbing alcohol. All the swirl marks in the IHG area came back, as if the area had never been treated. The swirl marks in the Perfect It were a little more visible (indicating it also has some fillers) but no where nearly as much as in the IHG area. Definitely not a 'scientific' experiment, but it indicated to me that IHG is pretty much a filler. If it has any polishing power, it seems to be pretty minimal. Just my personal experience. Drew |

Like Matt, I use all Griots products on my '72.
Paint looked pretty tired until I used the clay/Speed Shine combo followed by Best of Show liquid wax. Many members of my family here in SoCal thought I got the car repainted! I will soon be ordering some of their hand polish and carnuba paste. I've used alot of different stuff on Porsche paint, but Griots is the best, IMO. The Griots Speed Shine is great when you want to give your fairly clean Porsche a 15 minute wax. I also like the window cleaner, car wash and leather dressing. I use Wenol polish on my polished Fuchs followed by a coat of Griots Best of Show liquid wax - haven't seen a water spot since I started using this combo. Best to you all, Kurt |

I've used mostly Meguires products since day one with my car. I've picked up a few concours & show trophies over the years. But maybe "she" said it well? "It ain't what you got..it's how well you use it." Or, maybe how often? Edit: Mark? Is that a belt buckle? Or...a tattoo?

i use two sets of products on my 2 cars:
1). my show car: i'm almost totally an autosol user......autosol plastic cleaner, autosol wheel cleaner, autosol clay bar spray, lexol leather cleaner, lexol leather conditioner, and autosol rubber treatment. for wax, i use a house brand stocked by beverly hills motoring. for polish, i use autosol. for tire treatment, i use mcguiar's endurance. i also use mcguiar's quick detailing spray for spot cleaning. i buy all my supplies (except mcguiar's stuff) at beverly hills motoring. i'm very happy with that company. 2). my other car: mcguiar's gold class wax, mcguiar's endurance tire treatment, lexol for leather. i buy all these supplies at the closest auto supply house. |
