Renewing black trim
I removed the vent window assemblies on my Targa to renew the window seal/stop and wanted to refresh the finish. Will simple black trim paint be enough or should I search out powder coating? Seems like some satin black rattle can paint should do the job as it's not a concours car.

The paint will not hold up. At a minimum bake it but it will still wear off/chip off. If you can have it powder coated, you will be much happier in the long run. Might as well do all you black metal trim i.e. door handles

Paint can work, the trick is sand it down to bare metal then apply a good self etching primer, the self etch primer is the trick. Then top coat with paint. You'd be amazed how well paint holds to metal with self etch primer. Find a high quality self etch primer, try 3M products. The real good self etch comes as a 2 part primer, you can also find spray cans but the best is the 2 part.

SEM Self Etching Primer and Wurth Satin Black is what I used. 1 year later (only) but it's holding up great so far.

Yeah, I think that is what I did wrong, used wrong primer, thinking primer is primer. Just learned something

I used Krylon satin black rattle cans, and was very pleased. Proper prep is the key.
