Shifter slight move replace engine mounts?

Sport mounts on my 84 are about 4 years old. They've gone through 4 engine removal. I am now noticing slight shifter move (about 1/4 inch) when on off the gas. Is this an indication of mounts going?

Most likely the shifter assembly bushing/s.

End play of the transmission shafts will do that.

How do you adjust or reduce end play in the transmission shafts? I just rebuilt my transmission I did not see any shims or adjustments associated with end play. What shafts are you referring to?

Mainshaft and pinion shaft, held in position by 4 point ball bearings which are held tight against the differential housing by retaining plates. The plates and bearings both can wear enough to allow some end play in the shafts. Being that the shift forks are in the shift sleeves, which are on the shafts, the movement is noticed in the shifter.

Update: no play this time after getting the car back from the shop. Must have been an adjustment issue as they've had to rr the drivetrain. Fyi tranny was just refreshed and my shifter bushings are pretty recent. Thank you John and Draco.

What exactly did they do?

Replace removed tranny replaced synchros dogteeth sliders. I assume when tranny went back in the shifter/coupler is a little off. Then I needed to return the car so this time the adjustment is fine. Theres still a small play but not as huge as before.
