85 Carrera Power Mirrors Don't Work. What to check first?
Just got the car. Mirrors don't work. Is there something common that we should check first?

1. Fuse
2. Switches (motion and left/right) |

And after that, if its like my 87, you can access the the little mirror adjust toggle without removing the entire drivers door panel. Think you just take a screw or 2 off that top trim piece on the door. You can test for power and function there if you have a meter.
Last is start disassembling the mirror "carefully" so as not to break small/old plastic bits so you can check that the two little motors are able to work. |
Thanks for the quick replies!
Since both mirrors don't work, I'm inclined to think it's the switch. I have my shop digging into it today. Fingers crossed it's cheap whatever it is :) |
Most likely the ground wire has dislodged from the socket. Did you recently do some work behind the door panel or gauges.
There are 2 grounds on the door trim toggle. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303583176.jpg |
For what it's worth...I manually moved mine into position as a stop-gap measure. That was years ago. Kinda forgot about 'em.

We did just have the door panels off to do new door checks and door check reinforcements, but both mirrors weren't working before they started that project. Here's to hoping it's something simple. Cheers :)

Check both the connector and toggle. You will see the metal tabs/connectors, insure they are seated properly and not dislodged.
In fact, check the voltage on the terminals to insure 12v's |
