Shifter Preference
 

I am pretty sure this has been beaten to death over the decades but I would like to know from users who had jwest and switched to wevo and vice-versa. In the past I installed a couple for other people but really did not have much seat time with either one, and I will order something this week. Leaning towards jwest kit. Please share your opinions and experience. Thanks in advance.

I replaced the factory short shift in my 1983 SC with a Jwest shifter. I purchased it used on Ebay. I like the feel of the Jwest shifter. Big improvement over the factory shifter.

Just remember that a shifter doesn't fix bad internals or bushings. I am a WEVO user.

Agree with patz comment. Make sure your stock set up is working correctly.
I put in the Jwest shifter about a 2 months ago. With everything in order the shifter went in with no problems. Took about 15 minutes. I like feel of it.
But, I believe any aftermarket shift kit would make a change as long as your shifter set up is correct from the beginning.
Stock was fine with me. Just wanted to try something different. Car is driven on the street.

So does one have advantage over other in any terms?

Not many people will toss an upgraded shifter. Compare prices and reviews on each site, make your own decision.

I think the Wevo is great if you want to preserve the stock appearance. I went Wevo at the advise of my re-builder, and it is one of the best upgrades I did. Mind you, the PO had the factory short shift kit in a state of sad affairs. It was so poorly adjusted that the reverse lockout would not engage.

I have never used the jwest, and a friend with one is quite happy. I read of some people finding if finicky, but they stand behind their products.

It is win win from what I gather.

I have a Seine shifter mod combined with bushings from the Coupler Whisperer....my 915 is in great shape with new synchros. It's the best shifting 911 I've owned, this is my fourth and I've driven another 15 over the years.

In a weak moment and with a little money burning a hole I bought the JWest shifter along with the coupler he sells.....I've yet to install but did a lot of reading before buying.

The most compelling reason the JWest system appealed was the fact that the entire unit is new, I wouldn't be starting with a 30 year old shift mechanism like Wevo uses. Plus it was less money as I recall? That said the Wevo unit seems to be the choice of most on this Forum.

I can't wait to install the JWest unit, I've had the car apart to refresh the interior and dash.....hopefully I'll have some time over the holidays, I'll report back if the thread still lives! Scott

Oh, BTW, James (?) at JWest was a pleasure to deal with. He answered my questions and delivered in a timely manner and communicted extremely well during the entire transaction.....I was nervous, a large purchase for me. S
