@Mick_D - okay, got it .. then i'd go for one of the early Turbo colors, the gold or blue metallic ..
|
I get where you're coming from. Minerva Blue is a nice color.
|
@Mick_D - yeah, i'd go for that one ..
|
WE shall see!
|
it took me quite some time to make up my mind .. and this is how it turned out - it's a silver that was used in 1958 for the 356.
nice one, i really love it .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448346393.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448346405.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448346418.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448346434.jpg |
all parts dried out and the assembly started, all fiberglas parts as well as the engine and trans
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448376087.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448376143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448376193.jpg next big project - muffler. the orginal came with the car but i wanted something with a bit more sound, more darker growling .. so i found a dp11 muffler and tried to mount it onto the car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448376299.jpg the dp11 was built to fit under a SC/Carrera bumper but not under the way smaller earlier 911 bumper. to be honest, it looked horrible. |
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448376435.jpg
so i made a few adjustments to make it fit under the bumper |
next step - grille .. got a used one from pelican but the black was not that great anymore .. so I took it apart and resprayed the black, reassambled it - looks great!

next step - interior .. well, i ve removed anything previously but i wanted some sound deadening so i searched the net and found a product called alubutyl, some aluminium with some tar on it - sticky and therefore great for my plan .. so i started installing it ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384476.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384493.jpg and after a day or so it looked like this .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384526.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384560.jpg and i found some old insulation that was good for "seats", just in case anyone would sit there for a short ride .. |
had to stop finishing it so i started with the headliner .. found plenty of useful information hier on pelican so i started to do it myself ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384719.jpg easier than expected, even around the sunroof - a piece of cake. what i suggest is using those paperclip pieces, helps you a lot .. and start at one side and go step by step. i bought a rubber glue which worked perfect for me .. |
after the alubutyl i used 4mm foam as another layer and the carpet right after that ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384949.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448384968.jpg i decided to buy new but old 70s style leather seats and i found a leather dealer nearby with exact the same leather which i bought to reupholster the rear quarters and the door panels .. and maybe more .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448385056.jpg not perfect but okay for my first try .. after installment i try-fitted the rollbar which i found on ebay .. and installed it on top of the rear quarters for a better look .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448385111.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448385176.jpg |
i guess porsche stopped installing rear pop-out windows in 1977 but i wanted to go chrome trim and also with the pop-out windows .. so time to install them .. had to remove a small metal stripe from the b-pillar in order to get them in and had to use pop rivets in order to mount the locking lever.
looks fantastic .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448385630.jpg |
looks really great! Love the color, and some of your details you are working on. You ought to look at Al Ikosmal's perforated grilles - one in black would look awesome with that silver in my opinion.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/602269-do-you-like-my-new-grille.html I think this picture, but with a chrome trim around the edge of th grille, as well as chrome fasteners for the grille would tie on nicely with what you are doing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1302488221.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1302488257.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1302488285.jpg |
@SCWDP911 - looks fantastic, was the molding glued to it? would be an option for project number two ..
|
anyway .. interior .. i wanted it to be simple but nice so i closed the holes for radio, heater and the glove box and made a new dash. bought some silver leather from my leather dealer in order to match the outside color a bit ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448430607.jpg next step seats .. installed the new seats that i bought and i must say - it looks fantastic .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448430657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448430705.jpg |
door panels .. i kinda liked the rs style and the supersimplistic approach .. i figured, i only need a hole for the manual window regulators and a open/close mechanism. took some of the leftover silver leather and cut a stripe, glued it together and sewed it together, punshed holes into the panels and found some metal loops for the silver stripe .. and installed it .. looks fantastic imo .. what do you guys think?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453037.jpg |
found an early talbot mirror which i like the best .. matches the chrome trim and gives the car a racy look ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453170.jpg also installed all the glas .. i suggest using the original porsche rubber, anything else is rubbish .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453195.jpg |
also found NOS 8x16 fuchs wheels for the back and took the old 7x16 and had them polished, anodized and painted so they look similar, new rubber and i am almost ready to go ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453288.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453316.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453332.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453352.jpg also added the re-chromed door handles - looks awesome .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453385.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453398.jpg |
back is ready .. guess i need to adjust the ride-height ..
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453514.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453528.jpg next step - front .. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1448453577.jpg |
That's is a lot of work; I love the color.
