Loading guts in a 71 Targa door
Getting ready to put the guts back in the 71 Targa doors and flying a little blind here, hoping some members can shed some light. Looking to get a "sequence" of what goes in first, what should get replaced, lubed etc.
1. In order of installation, what goes in first.? Regulator.? Window (does it get attached to regulator).? Vent window assembly.? rail felt channel glide (with little chrome "L" on top), Exterior door handle.? 2. What pieces should get replaced,? any bushings, glides etc.? 3. Best way to adjust/install door handle.? 4. Assuming chrome trim goes on last.? Any help very much appreciated |

From the shop manual,
![]() Installation is the reverse of removal... PM me, I have the Targa supplement for the manual as well. It sheds some light on how to adjust the windows and such. Regards Dave

I'd suggest door latch mechanism first, then outside door handle, then put power window mechanism (if so equipped) in the bottom of the door shell, then drop window frame in with window duct taped to top of frame. Then lower window about half way to get the window rollers in the guide at the bottom of the window. Lots of good posts on adjusting window frames, but be sure to have all window seals in place when you do it.
