Is there anywhere I should look other than these places?:

Collector Car trader
Recycler
LA TIMES
911-classified
S Reg.
T. Reg.
PP classifieds

BTW, anybody selling theirs?

Porsche Crest

I bought mine last year through 'Collector Car Trader'. I liked that I could put the price range in and had additional options only if I chose to use them.

For some additional options try local newspapers (more than you might expect), and regional autocross web sites.

I ended up taking a trip to Oregon to get it and drove it back, very fun! Good luck to you.

Try the pca. I don't know if you are a member but if you aren't it might be worth the 40 bucks to join. They have a national website and there are also local chapters with websites as well.
They have the mart with cars and parts for sale on both.
Also look at rennlist if you haven't already. It is a bbs similar to this with cars for sale as well.
good luck

I would also check Hemmings Motor News. Interesting cars show up there from time to time.

I would recommend looking at any car you wanted to buy. I almost bought a car just by looking a digital pictures. It's hard to see the rust behind the paint, especially on the early cars.

There're lots and lots of original paint, unmolested, rust-free, low-miles early 911's for sale for around $8,000 to $10,000. At least that's what I keep hearing. -- Curt

Scott:
I found mine through a local buy and sell paper.
However...the best method sometimes is peoples memories.
I used to ask older ppl if they remembered anyone with a (old Harley I was looking for) at that time...and letting them tell me about some old thing in the back of someone's garage or barn.
Old timers sitting around a checkers board or stove in the old hardware store in a small town can be a wealth of knowledge.

Bob, with all due respect, that was a good method to find stuff. But in my experience, most of the treasures have long been found, and the old guys around the checkerboard are.......dead.
I'd suggest the new approach is to ingratiate yourself with the Jerry Seinfelds in the neighborhood.

Curt, Not sure about the "lots and lots" part, but pretty sure that he's only looking for one car. That request can be filled w/o too much trouble in this part of the world. As I've said before, the people who say that they have looked for a year are either horrible hunters or have some pretty unusual standards that must be met, (beyond the standard no rust/accidents). Wonder how long it took Jack O. to find that clean '72 roller, (much rarer than a running car, BTW), it was days, not weeks.

Scott,

Sometimes you will find a few on Ebay. Five or six showing now, and a couple look interesting. Some of these are in your area, the Bay Area or just over the border in Nevada.

Pulling the trigger

I don't think FINDING one is THAT hard. I found 2 within the course of 13 months: a beautiful, original, unmolested '69S, AND a completely restored, stunning, '72S, with 2.7RS engine etc.

The question is....are you willing to pull the trigger and step to the plate when you DO find one....

My experience: good cars go FAST, usually to the first person to see it and willing to pay; good cars command premium prices. If you are looking for 'A DEAL' and NOT a CAR, you will look, and look and look.

Lot's of 'lookers' end up endlessly pursuing...'the deal' and NOT the car...

I paid asking price for my '72S. It was EXPENSIVE. But the car is perfect, and exactly what I was looking for. I lucked into being the first to see it, and didn't even bother making an offer other then shaking hands on buyers asking price. Otherwise, I could've haggled for 'the deal', and not had my car.

On my '69S, I made an offer (very close to asking price) to a seller I had been in contact with via the Internet. I had the car PPI'ed before leaving to pick it up, and everything went smoothely. The previous owner and I are still in contact and friendly. I paid more for the car then 'MY BUDGET' was when I first started looking....but...WHEN YOU FIND A NICE CAR, STEP TO THE PLATE AND BUY IT. Don't get hung up on worth and value and 'THE DEAL.'

JUST MY .02.....

Great advice Stacey! I did EXACTLY the same thing when I bought my 71. -- Curt
