Cost of widening fuchs wheels?

I'm currently running 7&9x16" Fuchs on my wide body '74 coupe. I was planning on buying some new wheels (going 9&11x16(or17))and a friend suggested I call one of the local shops to ask about having my Fuchs widened.
The local shop quoted me $800 per wheels to convert the 7" wide Fuchs to 11's for the rear, and I should be able to run the 9's currently in the back up front. Does that sound reasonable? That would be $1600 CDN, so around $1200USD. The quote would include refinishing the wheels.

Picture for reference:

I did it. It was not cheap, and I shopped around.

That was a few years ago. Since then many companies have sprung up producing 17" versions in various offsets and widths.

If I were to do it again I would just buy a set now that they are finally available..

I also went with 10.5 wide instead of 11 due to range of tire choices

I've got a pair of 16x7 Fuchs being widened by Weidman's wheels to 16x8 so I can run 8s on a narrow hip car. Will be around $600 for the pair not including any other finish work.

Research tire availability first. 16 inch wide performance tires are scarce. Consider 17s.

good call, I took for granted they would still be around. looks like one is stuck running hoosiers or other non-street tires in those sizes.

17 inch tires in wider widths are getting hard to find too. Nitto still makes them but not too many others.

Then consider 18s or spacers.

Tire choices first, then wheels. Not sure anything would fit a 16x11 wheel except racing slicks.

Woah, I had a local shop add 2" to my wheels for ~$200/ea. $800/ea sounds really expensive unless they're doing something else too.

FWIW, you can get a brand new Braid BZ in 16x11 for not much more than the cost of just the work you were quoted. I've seen the 17" version on Paul's (BraidUSA here on Pelican) car, and they're gorgeous wheels, much prettier than my cheapie Euromeisters.

I have one rear 11.5 inch rim pair that I run 315/35/17 on. Not many choices out there

My other rear pair I had made to 10.5 inch so I can run 275/40ZR17
My fronts are 245.40/17 on 9 inch
There still seems to be enough of these around
(common sizes for corvette guys)

To widen 16's by 1" I was quoted $215 each.
Welcome to Weldcraft Wheels | Weldcraft Wheels
Seems like a stand up company. When I finish off my current set of tires, I'll have them do a pair for me and I'll be able to run one size larger on the rears.

^ that's the place that did mine. They mostly do rim repair, the OLD SCHOOL hot rodder type owners do the custom welding stuff. Really cool old shop.

The only shop I would trust to do that is Harvey Weidman's shop
