Replace Marelli Distributor w/ Bosch
So, I have a Marelli distributor on my 69 2.0 T. Obviously, I'd would like to replace it with a Bosch, so I can do a real tune-up.

good luck finding one. they're rare as chicken's teeth. the hot tip these days is to machine down a 72-77 distributor to match the smaller base of the marelli. requires a complete disassemble and a trip to the local machine shop.

Thanks, John.
That's a great tip. I can machine the base myself. Are all of the other dimensions ok as far as you know? I'm assuming the depth is ok, just the diameter of the housing? Dan P.S. Oh! Did those distributors have both advance mechanisms? I assume I would disable the vacuum and keep the mechanical w/ original curve? Thanks!

the depth on the later dist is longer, but you just machine the length the same as the marelli, and use the early clamp, so that's not a problem. a new o ring groove must be cut. the vacuum unit is a retard, so it's not used. set the timing to 35° total. the cast adjustment flange is also removed from the later unit. just last week or so, FISHCOP posted a pic of the one he made. all polished up, looked nice.

Should be the same right? Or was there a different case used for the 2.2?
Sounds like I have a few options. I appreciate the help.

Thanks to John Walker Workshops. This is the results of my effort converting a 2.7 to work in my 2.2T. You'll notice I had the vacuum unit totally removed with a blanking plate. I also had the unit re-graphed to my motor and modern fuel when I was finished.
Email me if you want more.

Thanks again, everyone, I think I'll track down a 2.7. Prolly easier. And less expensive...
