Painting inside of smugglers box

I cleaned up some surface rust inside the smugglers box. What the best thing to use to re-paint the now clean, bare metal? The existing coating seems to be some kind of rubbery stuff. I don't care much about appearance since this is seldom seen; I just don't want any rust to come back.

Plus 1 on the pot 15 I used it about 5 years ago and have had no peeling or rust return. The silver seemed to cover best imho
