anyone running 6s and 8s?

I have a 3.2 carrera and wanna go 8 in the rear (from my stock 7s)

I also neither mind the look up front with 6s nor wish to roll the fenders.

Any reason, other than style preference NOT to run 6s and 8s? I see no one else running this set up

I'd also be happy to run my 7 up front but will be at euro ride height after some tuning and don't want rubbing

That setup (6 + 8) was the factory option near the end of the 3.2 run. All '89s with 16" were that way, and maybe '88s too. Works fine, no sweat.

My '88 came with 6/8s from the factory. No problem at all with this fitment.

If you run the stock tire sizes, you won't get rubbing with those wheels, no matter what you do. Your car left the factory at "euro ride height" so any changes you make will be lowering it from that height.

I installed bolt on 21mm spacers on the rear or my 85 Carrera with 7's. Lowered to 25 in rear fender. It filled up the wheel wells ok and still had a little room to spare so I installed 2mm spacer shims and at 23 mm it still had room so I added another 2mm spacer shim and it looked great at 24mm or about 1 inch. But, when looking at the appearance of the total car it appeared a little narrow track in front compared to the rear. I then slipped on 1/4 in or 6mm spacers up front which balanced out the appearance quite well and your able to do that without pounding out the studs.
If you view the auction above with the white 89 you can see the side shot and it appears a little narrow track up front compared to the rear.

I'm running 6 and 7s with one inch spacers. 205 and 225 tires. Fills the wheel wells and less drag from my old set up. Tires for the 8s such as 245/45 are hard and expensive to get.

I'm running 6 & 7s on mine, with 1" spacers on the rear only. Fills the rear flare nicely that way, same as the 8" do.

Also worth noting that you don't need to run the wider 245/45 on the 8", the stock 225/50 fits those rims fine, and still have a reasonable selection of tires.

Agreed w/ Arne, in fact with most street tires and softer sidewalls I prefer the 225 on an 8.

I've also run a few different tires on a stock offset 7" up front, do not have rolled fenders, and encountered no rubbing even lowered to 24.5"... though of course I respect the personal preference for 6s, especially when they're already on the car.

Did you use an adaptor or replace the lugs
Any handling difference?
While I like the deep dish it's the wheel coming out in the wheel well that really matters to me

I used bolt on adapters, no lug changes necessary. I noticed no difference at all in how it drives, only in how it looks.

Our 89 Targa has 6 and 8's...I love the set up! And yes... the second pic is of our car next to a fantastic 89 Speedster!! These were taken at PCA Porsche Escape in Orlando.
