Hey thrown, are you OK with the PO's mods to the body, specifically making the back end look like a 74+ model? Is the front a short hood or did the PO leave it as a long hood? The wheels / tires in the back look kind'a skinny with those flares. I think you'll get a kick out the power the 3.2L gives that car. Finally, make sure the car is clean - i.e. no rust!

Regards,

Front end is left alone with the addition of the S spoiler.

You will need an extra oil cooler if it doesnt have one. I would sell the rear bumper and puut and RS front and rear bumper on it and have a blast.

Face it; you're not going to be happy until you have a big bad Turbo!
. . .930 style . . .adjustable waste-gate . . .big brakes. . .not so subtle flair!

It has a front cooler. Does the price seem in line? I may go look at it this weekend.
Kevin, get ahold of Chris Metzger. He pulled his motor just to see if he could do it.
Island,
I can't find a 930 in my price range. And you are probably right...I won't be happy til then.

It looks coddled together--like someone's vision gone slightly awry in the implementation. Needs SC front fenders or something. Give him $11k and fix it.

I think the big issue is the motor. I'd need to know who built it before I even considered the car. If the motor checks out, it looks like a good car to me - assuming no rust, no accidents, yada yada. I'd install a proper 73 RS rear bumper, lose the SC reflector and put some Fuchs on it (7" or 8" in rear to fill the flares out). Good luck! -- Curt

Thumbs up

I agree with the earlier post make sure and look for rust. With the 3.2 in it should be a very fun car. I am running a 72 Coupe with a 3.2, and an early 911 with a 3.2 makes a very fun tractable ride. You may also want to check and see if the valve guides have been replaced on it. 3.2's have a reputation for premature valve guide wear.

Looks like fun to me.

As long as the rust issues and motor check out I would say go for it.

Use the 74' up rear on a 73' car and the undersized wheels in the rear as a bargaining point. They probably have a lot to do with the car not moving.

If you really want an early Turbo then go for it. You'll find a way.

I've got the same flairs on my '66 912 along with a 3.0SC engine, that car will be a lot of fun! I used 26mm spacers to make my 8" rear rims fill the wells better, I'm running 245/50/15's in back and 215/60/16 on 7" in front. Here's a pic

I have a set of seven and eights to throw on it. I talked to the guy for a long time last night. There is a little rust in a nonstructural place on the car. The 3.2 is rebuilt and has all new fasteners including raceware rod bolts. He has all reciepts.
I agree that the back end looks off. i would back date it.(after driving the wheels off it next summer)
Kevin,
I may see if I can sneak over on Saturday or something. Maybe I will drive this Carrera/SC/Rgruppe monstrosity.

RS in Columbus

TH-
I checked out a car in Columbus last week for a guy in Oregon that is right up your alley. It is a '71T with all '85 mechanicals. Everything from engine to steering rack is '85. Completely set up for track though. He has 23/29mm Tbars and 22mm sways. All race decked out interior. But this thing is FAST! Next best thing to a 930.
I'll PM you the pics I took. Let me know if you would like my impressions of it.
