Was there a Club Sport Targa?

A good friend of mines brother-inlaw died and he had what they think is a 911 Club Sport Targa? I think it's an 84? It has the badging on it and the wife thinks it is one. I have never heard of a targa club sport? We are going to need to sell it once I get it figured out. Thanks for any help.

A little late to the party but..... yes, only 1 of the 28 in the US has a SR (Option code Z), CS# 5081. It is Silver Metallic and is currently owned by an enthusiast who lives in San Diego. No Targas.

The Club Sports in the US were '88's and '89's. There are 21 '88's (separate run of sequential serial numbers) and 7 '89's (regular serial numbers).

Fun to flog on twisty roads.

Really late to the party, but indeed there was one 911 3.2 Club Sport Targa.

The car is dark blue and is now somewhere in Italy.

Based on this article here you appear to be correct 928cs about the one Targa : Porsche 911 G Type 3.2 Carrera Club Sport | OTTORITY classic cars

"Only 339 Clubsport Coupes and 1 Clubsport Targa were built until 1989"

If true, that is one rare car. CSs in the US are hard to come by, some have been exported to Europe and the rest have made their way into collections. A CS sighting on the road in the US is rare.

Se the factory documentation of these cars
There is no listing by the factory itself for a C/S targa, If a special wishes car were made for a 'special' customer it was not a regular production car and doesn't count.

It's easy to make claims that a one off was made.

If you want to believe in Unicorns be my guest

Bill, I wasn't roll-eyeing your comment, just the fact that you correctly stated that badges are cheap--a cheap way to up-market (or mis-represent) a car. Plain-Jane BMWs with glued-on M badges being what I roll my eyes at.

In the early 90's I saw one for sale at a small boutique dealership in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Mind you, the same town had (has) a Hermes clothing store.

It was close to $30k. Does that sound correct? A very nice 3.2 then was $22-25 depending on the year. Regular driver 3.2's were in the higher teens to lower 20's.

If so, I'm lucky to have seen one.

Sondermodelle

Also, it seems that two 930 CS were made, for friends of the Porsche Familly. I have seen one of them, but can not provide pictures, sorry.
One is blue, the other is dark burgundy.

Translated from the linked page, above:

"The painted in dark blue car was made on special request of the Telekom Board Member's Manfred Bergmann. The former price 89 275 DM (ie 7.000 DM apply.) The vehicle with its original condition was subsequently owned by Porsche specialist Wilfried Holzthaleben, then at Markus Schwarz and is now in Italy."

So it sounds like it was a Sonderwunsch type of car, in that someone with deep pockets and factory connections had one made to suit his desires.

Not quite a production car then, as Bill noted. So, yes one does exist, and, no, it was never officially for sale to normal people...

Agree with javadog, Bill, BE911sc.

@Bob...in the 90's, yes a CS could be purchased in the $30's. Remember, when these cars came out, they were not a hit at all. This was the era of people wanting more..... a/c, leather, S/R etc.....all of the bells and whistles. They sold for more and you got less.

Today, due to their low volume, the tide has turned as the 80's SCs and Carrera's are starting to appreciate, the CS has done so in a big way.

It was spartan inside. I do remember that.

I could have beat on the 401k plan and pulled it off. However, there was also a stock buying geek at work back then that was saying "this CISCO stock is kicking butt".............

Woulda's and coulda's. My kids were two and four.

Again, was lucky to have seen one. Good enough for me (as I resist the urge to curl up in a fetal position and cry).

Thanks for the response.
