Source for Metric machine screws
I need about 3 dozen metric machine screws. I need m6 x 1 x 12mm long flat head machine screws with either a hex socket or a star socket. It would be ideal if they were hardened. Anybody know a good source?

Belmetric worked for me. Seems to have a nice selection of stuff that matches our needs including the right coating. Nice for smaller quantities.

Just checked out the Belmetric website for the first time. I've been looking for a one-stop shop for metric hardware with yellow zinc coating, they have a great selection. They also have metric braided hose from Germany!
Edit: also, I see that they carry a complete selection of Cohline fittings. I scoured the internet to find fittings to put together fuel lines for my MFI pump test rig, not easy to find. Belmetric has everthing I needed (but had to order from europe). By the looks of it they have everything I am going to need to put together my fuel system for the car, too. Thanks for sharing belmetric. Aircraft Spruce Canada is a source too.
McMaster-Carr refuses to sell to Canada.

For those of you in Chicago, A-Metric is my go-to place for metric fasteners. This is a small husband-and-wife shop (they're either Swiss or French, can't remember) on the north side (Clybourn just north of Fullerton). This won't be of much use to the OP, but I mention this for the benefit of anyone who may wind up at this thread from a search in the future.

Oddly enough, I have bought some nice hardware on ebay.
For instance, these were a great deal for the engine tin bolts:

I've bought from Belmetric and from EagleDay.
EagleDay has some pre-packages assortments that have a lot of the most common sizes nuts, bolts and washers Porsche used. Pretty handy. http://www.eagleday.com/fayzi.html

If you type "m6 x 1 x 12mm" into the search engine for our catalog, they come up.

As for "hardened" fasteners, metric and SAE fasteners use a standard marking system describing their tensile strength. You should familiarize yourself with those differences before ordering for your specific needs, especially if used in a strength-critical application. e.g. https://www.fastenal.com/en/76/metric-system-and-specifications Another issue to consider is that only a few sources provide the more "correct" yellow anti-corrosion finish (CAD or zinc) on their threaded fasteners. In addition, the anti-corrosion properties of CAD plating are typically better than the more common zinc plated fasteners. YMMV. Hope this helps, Sherwood |

My local Ace Hardware has all of that stuff. And I don't have to buy an entire box that might be the wrong size. You might want to try them.
