not again!! door locking electric system

it was working perfectly! Now it’s not! the center console lock button does not lock the doors.
I recently changed the electrical lock cables attached to the handles, on both doors and it worked for a while.

1) when working properly, i would exit the car, with the driver side door closed and the pass side door open, push the console button and both doors would lock.
only if I push the console button down ,actually tapping it the door buttons go down in increments as i tap the console button until the buttons get to the lowest position and then pop back up to the unlock position…. but never lock.

2) the doors do not lock with key from either the driver side or the pass side.. when tryin to lock the doors from driver side, turning the key to lock, the lock stem goes down and pops up! pass side does not move at all…

3) if I manually lock the driver side door from inside, get out and walk around to unlock with key it WILL unlock driver side but not lock again… pass side does nothing.

a question about the picture.. is that stem (red) in the correct position to the door handle (yellow)or should it be on the other side? picture taken facing towards from of car driver side

thanks

Probably one of the plastic ball sockets on the lock rod is off the ball in one of the doors. With the window down, look through the gap and see if the lock rod is detatched.

I have the panel off...the manual lock knobs work fine on both sides, I can turn them both to lock and unlock. What bothers me most is that the doors dont lock with key on either door...and that the center console button doesn't do anything except if I keep tapping button the locks go down in increments then pop up before they get to the llow ock position.
The doors should lock using the console with the driver side door closed and the passenger side door open. OR when both doors closed...normally I can lock the pass door using the center console lock from pass side and closing pass door...both doors should lock.
Also, when in the car and manually locking, the console lock lights up, but will not lock both doors

it is an '85 coupe...locks worked perfectly after a full door restoration 2 months ago...the issue started yesterday when the car didn't start, do know if that was just coincidence or not... haven't driven the car much at all lately.

to repeat, in case i wasn’t clear…
dont think it’s the switch at this point.. when i turn the key in the drivers door to lock it, it the door stem goes down to lock and bounces back up.. can’t lock my car! when it worked properly l, i was able to close the driver side door open the passenger side door, press the console button which then locked BOTH doors.
I was also able, obviously, to lock and unlock doors from the driver side. was able to also unlock both doors from the passenger side.. believe a i was also able to unlock both doors from passenger side.

See post #2. That's typically what happens when the ball socket comes off the ball. I see you have another post related to the plastic socket. Part# 999 168 021 40.

it doesn’t look like the ball socket is off, as in the photo in my other post. The rod pulls fine, there is no disconnect or break in the system from what i can see. seems to be electrical. do you know the part number for that spring in that post?
thanks

Spring is part of the latch, not sold separately.

you can see what happens when i tap the center console lock button. lock goes down little by little, once it gets low enough to lock it pops up.

Car wont start, there is a clue. Low battery, grounds? Charge battery, clean ground connections battery to chassis battery ground connection and go from there.
