What is a Carrera Club Sport?
I see the performance numbers are very impressive. I assume it is a n/a engine.
Was it a light weight? What size motor? When was it produced? Was it imported to America?

The Club Sport was essentially a delete option car that Porsche tried to sell at full price. At the time, very few people bought into the idea and thus they are very rare today.
Off the top of my head, some of the features were: - Hollow intake valves that allowed a slightly higher rev limit. - Sticker instead of hood badge - Clock delete - No AC - Sound deadening deleted - Clock deleted - Cloth sport seats - Sport shocks (spring rates remained the same). -Chris |

-No rear seats ( a shelf instead)
-No passenger subvisor, -Less/no underbody Schutz -Manual sportseats (THESE are very rare) -Clock in there -No sunroof -No bumper shocks, -Alloy space saver like would come (but with a different offset) on the 964 (VERY rare too) -Higher rev limit, -No changes to valvetrain, but, -Again the factory choose the good engines off the dyno, like they would for the 964 RS, and a modified DME with a 6700 rpm limiter -originally all white, or red, with red, or white Fuchs. -Some made it to the US in another color. -571 cars built in all GeorgeK |

I think the years were 1988 and 1989. 1988 saw import of just under 30 units to the US. 1989 saw only a handful come over here. If I recall this is what I read somewhere

The book that I saw these in was "Porsche 911, the complete story" by David Vivian. It states that the 0-60 time was 5.1 seconds. Thought maybe there would be more weight lose/ power to these cars.

In 1984 most magazines said normal 3.2's went 0-60 in anywhere from 5.3 (Car & Driver) to high fives or low sixes. Later magazine articles had much slower times, though curb weight was the same and the remapped 87-89's made a bit more power. Not sure why this is.

I dug out the article (Road & Track 1989 Porsche) and here a few more of the deleted/changed items:

I actually ordered one back in October 1987 from Maltin Porsche in Henley, Oxfordshire, but I didn't take delivery. The invoice price was £34,389.98

Also hollow intake valves, Bilstein dampers and I think it had higher quality valve gear. Reduced anti corrosion warranty.
Slightly different specs for some markets. One Targa version was apparently supplied in Germany.

I believe the CS motor mounts have a different part number but
they are still rubber, not completely solid. The CS models also had that way cool swoopy CS sticker on the fender!

Yikes!!
What about those stretchy 3.2 rod bolts. Did Porsche compensate for the lighter valves by replacing the rod bolts with an proper fastener combonation? Lord knows we 3.2 folk can't rev beyond 6300 or face impending destruction. ![]() Just curious really. Max |

My car has a chip in that lift the limit to around 7000 rpm and the car is at this all the time at the track. I have given up worrying about it for the past 4 years. The day you start to be concerned is when something will happen.

I owned a 1988 CS
What a great car--sounded wonderful without all of the deadening material. I purchased it in January 2001, and due to a layoff I sold it in July that same year. It took me three days to sell it via Ebay, and I made $10,000 profit on the car. The new owner bought it sight unseen. I had calls from Florida, LA, New York, Boston, Atlanta, etc. My original invoice indicated that the engine had been balanced and blueprinted at the Porsche Werks Division. I read all of the magazines regarding performance, but when my buddy (with a low mileage '89 3.2L) and I raced, I left him behind every single time. He and I switched cars, and he left me behind every time. I was planning on putting the car on a dyno, but never got around to it. I miss that Club Sport. Lance.
