Steering wheel selection advice

Picking up a black on black '87 Carrera tomorrow and I want to get rid of the ugliest steering wheel that Porsche ever produced. I'm probably going to do the prototipo as a replacement, but I'm not sure on the color. With the car being black on black; I was thinking on doing the silver wheel instead of the black one. Thoughts or opinions?

My other car has a silver steering wheel. That would not be my choice.

Also if it is very shiny, it will reflect and cause possible issues in the sunlight. I had a chrome steering wheel in one of my other cars and ended up painting it black.

Take some silver tape and use it to mock it up on your current wheel to see if it is what you want.

Don't get rid of the original steering wheel. Put it in a box & store it.

I would go black prototipo on black on black. I have a silver one that I replaced recently w/ a montecarlo. Loving the montecarlo. Better view of the tach & speedo & great 9-3 grip. It's also period correct for my '88.

Kept the prototipo just in case.

Have you considered the Momo 07, it’s like the prototype but with more dish?

The momo 07 works good in the G-bodies as well I'd say but the issue for me would be the yellow part on top of the wheel. I'd stick with a black prototipo. Never gets old... and to have it perfect, I'd search for a period correct one.

A friend thought the same about the yellow band and dyed it black. Simple!

There is a huge thread on steering wheels, take a look at that and pick what you like.

Man, I really like the '85 - '89 four spoke steering wheel. I also know that I'm in the minority / a divergent thinker in this case. That being said, I'll occasionally swap it out in favor of a short term romp with an Atiwe 930S wheel or a Momo Porsche Design unit. I'm about to send an extended hub 4 spoker to Car Bone in Poland for a thicker grip and a re-cover.

I kinda wish they'd do a Prototipo with leather wrapped spokes or this... Momo Give Us Mo'

I have a silver Momo Retro that I love, but I will say the brushed silver part seems to pick up dirt and grime from your hands that makes it look grungy. I have to clean it often.

I like the triangular holes in my Abarth better than the round of the Prototipo.

For a newer car I like the Momo montecarlo

For an older car I like the mom prototipo style,
(but since I don't like how flat it is and the reach, I bought a momo mod 7, which I love!)

Hm, which one are you talking about? Picture please.

Your cars age would fit an Atiwe Indianapolis nicely.
But if you like it oldschool and outlawish, the Prototipo is a must.

I like a thick wheel
930S for mostly street use

for track I like the straight ahead position marked and the wheel closer to my torso, w/ gloves the wheel doesn't need to be as thick so the Cup wheel is the way to go here

993RS on left and 993Cup on right

I'm with Bill,

Love a thick wheel but caution you against a smaller than stock diameter. These cars don't have power steering and the smaller 'fighter' diameter wheels tend to further obscure gauges and make parallel parking a workout.

Be sure to pick up a faux Porsche crest for the horn button.

Thanks guys. Think I’m going black and I just picked the car up. I’ll post a pic after we grab a bite to eat. Appreciate the replies.
