Door pocket

Anyone have a suggestion for a loose pocket passenger door on 86 911? The area of concern is the screw?, where the folding arm rest/pocket door at the rear? It simply won't hold when I try to screw it in?? Thanks

I used, license plate plastic anchors. Used dremel to make the square and pushed anchor in. My pockets are tight as a bug now :-)

The sheet metal is way too thin there. A bigger screw will just widen out over time.

My door pockets are fine at the ends, but has anyone come up with a solution to keep the pockets from gaping out at the top? I the folding cover doesn't sit properly as the pocket is too far out.

Depends, do you use them for storage? My solution takes up a lot of the space inside, and to do it right you need to remove the carpet and re-apply it after installation.

Nice mod Arne!

I found the main problem is the aftermarket or PAG replacement cover, it lacks the steel plate for reinforcement. I went and bought a Original leather clad one. fixed the sagging issue but the old rubber one widen out the pocket. Will need to do you mod

I'm not sure I understand??? My door pocket has pulled out of the door panel exactly where the screw goes through the pivot of the door pocket top. It seems to have a river on the back side. I've tried an 8 sheet metal (1-12 inch length). It will not hold/grab the door panel. I also tried a 10 sheet metal screw, but it seems too large in circumference to get through the inner side of the river??? Maybe I'm missing something. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oops I mean rivet. Not river.

I used these from a FLAPS:

Wilbo - the trick is to try to find a screw that is small enough to fit through the rivet yet large enough to get a bite in the sheet metal on the door. I was able to do this by replacing the original screw with one that was slightly longer and had slightly coarser threads. I may have just gotten lucky though. If you can't find a screw that will work, you may need to remove the door panel and install some sort of plastic anchor like DRACO suggests.

One other thing to consider or look at...at least on my car, there are two riveted holes in the plastic mounting bracket under consideration here, and only one of them (the upper one) has a screw going through it. I originally thought the lower screw was missing but there isn't even a hole drilled in the sheet metal for it. I suppose you could try drilling a small hole and attaching the bracket using the lower hole rather than the upper. Might not be as secure buy maybe better than nothing.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove the door panel again. Uggh. That's when I ran into trouble replacing a window motor. I will look into the lower hole and check that out. Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the meaning of FLAPS. Thanks again

Same here... elegant - and permanent - solution!

Actually what I'd look at is RivNuts: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W8TUIHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (although these are too large) they go into a whole like a rivet but give you a threaded insert. I like the ones with the scoring around the outside which grips the metal a bit better.

Thanks gremlin. Are you in Eugene? I'm in pdx. It indicates they can be applied from either side?? So maybe I wouldn't have to remove my door panel?? How would I determine the correct size? I've got #8 sheet metal screws that are 1 1/2 inches long.
