Any Porsche R/C?

This is a long shot, but does anyone here have any Porsche-theme radio-controlled cars?

(Asked in a slightly sheepish tone)

Yes there are many, ranging from the MicroRacers (that have a 996 Carrera) through to the 1:5 beasts put out by a german company (include real disk brakes!!!) -

There are plenty of bodies available, for 1:10 and 1:8 scale. I know that Tamiya do a Boxster electric, a GT2 and GT1 version. Check here for an example of a 1/5 scale

Heaps of Porsche stuff available, just check it out. Pity they don't do older body styles...

I just bought a Tamiya 959 R/C - should have it in a couple weeks. My wife is, of course, outraged - after buying the full-scale 911, the NERVE - she thinks each toy will be the last.

917-30 Can Am body 1/8 scale .21 gas powered 2speed disc brake deal.
A 7lb 50 mph ground griping road rocket! Get 8 in a race and you will be hearing bees buzzing the rest the day.
Cost about $2k with the tire truer and the radio, engine and rolling car. Goes through tires pretty quick too.

If you are into R/C Porsches, do a search on eBay.
I did some weeks ago and found a lot of cars there. Tamiya made some very detailed Porsche R/C cars from the mid '70s to the late '80s. The later models have polycarbonate/lexan bodies, often with less attention to the details. I posted a Tamiya 934 turbo kit (new in original box from 1977) here on Pelican in the Porsche collectables forum some time ago.

I have a Tamiya Boxster that I painted like Jimmy Dean's Spyder, with the red flashes on the rear fenders.

Actually, right now it looks remarkably like Jimmy Dean's Spyder, which is why I picked up a new body shell for it. I'm going to put 1973 RSR style Martini Rossi war paint on that one, and try not to crash so hard next time.

jyl, you are talking about this one, right?

I had one of those 6-7 years ago, my brother still has both the Porsche 959 and the Toyota Celica. Let me know if you need any parts for it, and I will ask him.

Hey Amir, How do you like your HPI? I am considering getting one of there kits for a winter project. I'm new to R/C and there kits look top notch. I am considering the nitro RS4 Rally.

Cheers, James

I have the RS4 RALLY electric (peogot body) . Very nice kit. My next kit will be for speed , maybe a nice 911 iroc body with a bolink nitro or electric pan chassis. What do you think.

I'm still trying to prepare my wife to buy me a HPI Super Nitro 996 turbo for Christmas, we'll wait and see how well I do. Many years ago, I tryed some pan car racing and had a few 'play' bodies to go with my track bodies; here's one...
(BTW, that's and all carbon fiber chassis and with the right motor and gears is good for well over 60mph; I've seen some hit 100)

Sorry I dont have any pictures of the car though here is a link to the chassis itself.

Here is some racing pics I found on the net.

The 1/8 scal on road gas cars were more popular in the 70s and 80s before electric cars and 1/10 scale and all the off road cars were developed.

I've got a couple of old 70's R/C cars just for display. The L&M car is about 1:24 scale and the 917 is about 1:12 scale. -- Curt

I bought mine right when the nitro rs4 kit debut (and I also used to own an original electric RS4 with 3-gear tranny) and I haven't had any major problems and didn't start breaking things until I swapped in an O.S. .12 CV motor.......I think it has a bit too much grunt for just screwing around, but I can do THE coolest power-on oversteer slides........I'm getting rid of it to buy a CV-X though because I hate the starter box and the entire ordeal of having to lug it around. Overall, I'm very happy with the car, I haven't broken or torn up anything expensive (just destroyed the front bumper once and snapped a couple body posts.......oh yeah, and I grenaded the front differential but that was my own fault for putting it together without any gear lube). If I were to buy a nitro touring car today I'd probably go for the super nitro kit because it really is a bit easier to control and it has better high-speed stability. Just make sure you spend your time when building the kit and make sure none of the suspension binds and that everything works properly (it took me about 8 hours total to put it together checking and double-checking to make sure everything was being assembled properly) and you'll have a great time.

later,

amir
