Those that have converted to Soft Window Targa SWT... any regrets?.

Got all my parts together to convert my 71 Targa.... before I start tearing into things and pulling the rear window, does anyone have any regrets? We are after all, technically downgrading to base model status... Handling is less precise, it's louder, less weatherable, yada yada yada, but I love the open air driving....

I've loosened the targa bar, once that comes off and I destroy the expensive rear window seal to get the window off, there's no going back!

Thanks!

The soft window does provide more of an open-air feel. More noise (a lot more engine noise). More wind. Lessened visibility when zipped in, especially in poor weather (no de-fog). Moisture really isn't a problem though as the soft window really does not leak (assuming it came form a good source). The isinglass has limited life and will cloud, yellow, get scratches, and loosen after a few years; requiring replacement.

In my opinion, SWB cars look right with soft windows. LWB cars look right with glass windows. The glass window was a solution to the complaints of customers with the first targas. I am very fond of my '68 soft window targa. But it was born that way. I also find my wife's glass window targa equally enjoyable.

To me it doesn't seem logical to retrofit a soft window into a car that was not originally so equipped. It may seem like a cool thing to do today, but I think in the long-term you will regret it.

i'm typically very conservative in matters like this, but the question I always ask myself is whether or not it can easily put back to the way it was.

If you like the look and plan on keeping your car then do what you want to it. It is your car after all. My 2 cents.

If it makes you want to drive the car more then I say go for it. If you like open top driving then I'm guessing the 911 noise is music to your ears.
