Has anyone utilized an MSD igntion on a 3.3 930? If so, please share your results. My situation warrants replacement of my 3 pin CDI and I am considering the MSD. Thanks again boys.

I just converted to MSD on my Ruf 930 and so far I love it. Had to change the plug wires at the same time because the MSD system was putting out such a high charge. The car now runs smoother, starts easier and gas milleage increased, especially at DE event when I'm on the boost for 30 minutes at a time. I also feel a little safer against detonation (live in S. FL) with the multiple spark, although still not a twin plug engine.

I have made a separate post about the MSD on my 69T. I know it is as far from your car as you can get (110hp plays 300+!!!), but still, a huge improvement and (other than mounting the thing) an easy job.

Erik,
Were the stock braided 930 wire insufficient for the hotter spark ? Also, Juno Beach sounds like a great place but I like it better 2 miles north here in Jupiter. Have a great day. Rich Boylan |

MSD state you cannot use solid core wires with the unit.
This is based on high levels of RFI/EMI from the unit - you need well shielded wires. Magnecor seem to be regarded as the best. Porsche wires have solid cores plus the Beru connector on the end to suppress RFI/EMI. I have still had not been convinced either way if the Beru connectors are adequate for suppression. I have noticed that my fuel gauges is wiggling around since putting in the MSD, but I am pretty sure my car has grounding issues which wont be helping. Result is that Magnecor are known to work well with the MSD and aren't THAT expensive. Cam |
