Removing clutch cable from transmission mount
Searched for an answer but couldn't find any so gotta ask the experts here.
I loosened both nuts but the cable does not budge. I even tried turning the front nut all the way to the red arrow but there still seems to be tension in the cable holding it to the mount. Any suggestions ? Thx

Did you release the omega spring?

+1 release the Omega "clutch helper" Spring.
To make things easier for you, you should remove the clutch arm via the circlip, drop the arm then you can use a BFS to pry the Omega Spring back and then your cable EYELOOP will simply drop off. Break a Leg! J

Thx !
Will remove the omega spring first. Already gotten the circlip and clutch arm off. I was following the Bentley and PP guide and they seem to imply removing the clutch cable is the first step

Oh not removal, well sort of. Once you pry it back and the cable comes off, the helper arm will want to drop down, if not rusted on the shaft. Yes, rust will hold it back so be prepare to work it off so you can clean and lube the shaft. Remember to replace the dust boots, they get pretty brittle.

Be careful with that omega spring. Lots of potential energy if it's under tension.

Once you remove all the tension in the cable - you don't have to remove omega spring for this - but if you are doing tear down, it will have to come off. You can just slacken cable and with a bit of grunt ping the end fitting free of the spring mechanism. But once you have the tension off and the adjuster nuts slack it will fall out of the housing.

Looks like the washers are hanging it up. Back the nuts off more. No need to mess with the lever or the spring just for a cable swap.

Loosen the nuts again and tell someone to go inside the car and pull the clutch pedal up towards them. Should fall right out.

It looks to me like the top (in the photo) washer is jammed into the slot, you might have to pry it out. John knows what he's talking about, you don't need to remove the lever or spring.

It looks like someone placed an extra washer too, probably because PO over tightened it caused one of the OEM cable washer to get squashed in the cable mount. :-/

Thx to everyone for all the help.
I gave the lever arm a nudge with the BFS and the assembly dropped out. The cable didn't move otherwise. The cable was last reassembled by a well known local mechanic so I am a little disappointed at how that washer was not done correctly. Here's a pic of how it is with the nut fully loosened. ![]() Now to move on to the next steps in my slowly progressing engine drop project ! |

Engine Drop? Yeah would have to remove the Omega spring in any case.
That is too bad, now the cable mount is damaged. Remember you do not have to over torque the jam nuts. Just tight enough as not to slip off, which would be quite difficult to do with all that tension. Break a Leg!

You may be able to slip the rubber sleeve off and slide a bigger washer on to prevent it in the future. But it is not uncommon for them to jam.
