Sunroof delete

Ive done a lot of searching with no success. Does anyone here in the states make steel sunroof delete panels? Ive been trying to contact Fenn Lane but all the links ive found his website doesn't work. Ive looked jn the classifieds and on other forums. I want to weld something in and can only find fg or cf. i know its a massive gap but im seriously starting to contemplate welding in the original panel.

Hard to weld CF or FG in place...I'd want a steel unit to as dissimilar materials expand/contract at different levels in hot/cold environments.

oops. I need to read better. Good luck either way.

To the post above, FG would work if you kept a seal like the original sunroof panel, but I agree it would not give a great "stealth look" like a proper metal and repaint job would.

Try Chris_Seven in England, he's on this site and I've seen steel weld in's he's done. He ships to Pelicanites all of the time.

I make mine, it very easy and fast on a shot bag or sand bag. Use a round or domed rubber mallet. It's such a slight radius that it doesn't take much. Go slow, use the force.

Use 20 ga mild steel and your sunroof as a template. If you trace it where it seals with the right marker then cut to the outside edge of the marker line, it will fit just right. Be sure to weld it in slowly, tack in hot but don't try and make a 1" bead. Go very slowly by going back and forth to different locations on opposite sides. It will get too hot and warp and you'll have a lot more filling.

Good luck and go for it this way it's easier than you'd think.

I will try to 'fix' our website as I am not sure what has happened.

We make our panel with an English Wheel and shape it correctly in both planes.

Our website isn't working at the moment - the 'provider' we were using has changed hands and didn't send out any reminders so it all screwed up.

The site was also embarrassingly poor and didn't reflect our current range of parts nor I hope our real capability.

I have taken out a new subscription today but we will not use the old site any further.

In the next day or so we will post a temporary contact page at: www.fennlane.co.uk.

We will start work on an improved site in the next couple of days and try to update it routinely until is a more reasonable effort.

I bought one of Chris's panels a year ago, I ended up keeping my sunroof. PM me if interested, I'm located in the UK.

Search using "sunroof delete". There are a few threads on it.

When I did mine, I replaced the entire roof skin. You can search for a roof clip. They usually don't cost that much....not many people need them. You can then use as little, or as much of the roof as you want.

I will admit to having a vested interest and for the following shameless plug but ....

We have found roof skins are increasingly difficult to find as the main source which was rusty 912s are now valuable enough to restore and not being cut up so often.

New Roof panels are available from Porsche at $2200 which is quite expensive,

Unrolling the roof seam and re-crimping in a new roof panel is a reasonably complex procedure and we have seen a number of cars with 'wavy' seams where this process has not been done very well.

We are just rectifying a 1975 shell that a 'specialist' fitted with a 964 Roof Panel. Not only are the drain gutters buckled but it doesn't have any rear screen vents which will look great on an ST Replica.

We produced 'our' wheeled panel because it is less intrusive than changing the roof, generally needs less skill to fit successfully, saves a shell and is reasonably cost-effective.

just a heads up on the FG panel, it is the same size as the panel so the felt area needs to be filled with a ton of body filler to make the gap up.
