84 Carrera Wiper Relay

Anybody have the part number for the wiper relay located under the dash vent blower motor? I hear the relay clicking (only when using the column switch - not when using the dash rheostat), and I'm going to change it. I've searched and searched, and the only relay I can find is the intermittent wiper relay, and that doesn't seem right.

Again - this is for an 84 Carrera.

Thanks

Hey Gerry -

Thanks, but it's the big flat one that sits on the firewall right behind the blower.

I'm going to have to go take the car apart I guess. Dang.

Well done.

That's a big ticket item $$$$$100.00, maybe a few voltage checks are in order
prior to buying.

Also, did you pull the relay by removing the clock?

pm me as needed.

Best,

Gerry

Ha - no, I pulled the fresh air blower out. Which needed doing anyway, because the fan was squeaking really badly.

And - it's not so bad. Replacement is 48.

I'll make more electrical checks while I'm in there. It's easy to get to everything. Also - I may reverse the wipers.

Thanks,

Ken

Just an update:

I pulled the fresh air blower and box. Those stupid little rings holding the two halves aren't bad to get off, but difficult to get back on. I wasn't able to separate the blower motor from the "squirrel cage", so I ended up ordering the motor/blower fan combination. It's expensive ($220). One thing that I didn't know until the new one arrived, there is a rubber gasket on it that must be an anti-vibration gasket. Well - I didn't order another one, so I carefully removed the old one - and promptly ripped it. Dang. I think I can still use it though.

While I had everything apart - the foam rings on the flappers were really really rotten. Changed those and put the box back together. The gasket between the blower motor and the vent box is NLA, so I just used some thin weatherstripping and made a gasket. That should work OK.

The relay arrived today and is back in the car. Did a test, and the "clicking noise" that started all of this is gone, so that's good news. Waiting for 1 hose and 1 seal, and car can go back together. Oh good.

Still waiting on a gasket from Germany. One thing - there is something wrong with the "replacement" relay. When it is in, the intermittent switch is powered on. So, the wipers will just wipe at random. Old relay back in, that stops, but the "clicking noise" starts again. I've decided to just buy the OE Porsche relay. We'll see what happens when I get it.
