Question What are these for?

Here's an easy one for you guys:

I had my swing arms off to have new bearings pressed in last week (btw great result, I can only hear the road and the mighty wwrrrrrrrrroouuuuurrr of the flat6, no more grinding and whining of the bearings).

I still cope with the filler plug of my tranny stuck so oil change isn't possible. With the swings off I used degrip oil, power tools, heat, etc. Finnaly the plug is fried, just a smooth circle inside, no more grip. I'll have my engine and tranny out in a while and will rebuild the plug then.

At the other side of the tranny at about the same hight I notissed two hex headed screws. What are they for? Can I add oil to the tranny via these? I realy would like to have an oil change before desiding to rebuild my tranny, I still whish that the 2nd gear not synchronising will be fixed with new oil...

Have a look at them pics, what is your opinion?

Thanks,

Bart.

Sorry to hear about your plug. JanusCole went through something similar. A search may be helpful.
Those other two bolts hold the spring detents - little pills with springs behind them. It would be near impossible to fill the tranny through them.

Why not drill out the dreaded bolt?

Thumbs up

That's indeed one of the scenario's I have in mind.
Drill at diam 10mm, run wire in that and have a
new 10mm plug inserted.

I'm a bit bugged with the fact that metal particles will fall in the tranny and flushing with oil will not get tham all out.

Thanks,

Bart.

Old trick....coat the drill bit with heavy grease ...and as you drill, wipe off the grease with the caught pieces of metal...and re-apply more grease.
This will catch most of the bad stuff.
