the white knight!

Reminds me of Steve's lightweight 993 racecar project...but he started with much less.

Yup, someone got a good deal. On a '72 car the oil tank alone is probably worth that

I live on the east coast, and my car is undergoing a major makeover. The target weight for my project will be between 1725-1800lbs. If you notice in the attached pic, the major panels on this car are glass or carbon (roof included). I have the flush mounted rear glass, the quarters are plexi too.

It has RSR front struts with appropriately valved inserts. The rear shocks are inverted Koni 3012's ( at 3lbs each), all suspension pick ups are monoball or plastic, the ERP bump steer kit is installed. Right now the car has weltmeister sway bars, but I think I will install Tarrets before I hit the track again.

Brakes are Wilwood Billet superlites. Hawk blues etc.

The transmission has been re-geared with a "short" stack, top speed will be about 142 at 7500. Now all gears are useable
(this reminds me of the "active" thread). I just installed a Quaife.

The engine is a humble 2.2 its output should be about 200hp.

I have 9x15 and 11X15 Simmons wheels..... Yokahama makes 285 and 320 slicks that will fit and keep the rolling dia close..

Oh and finally I want to paint the car white.

What do you think?

MJ - thanks again. My project car that never ends probably just got delayed even more- I have no idea what I want to do with this tub I just won. I'm thinking fix the remaining rust, stick an engine in it, and drive it! I've always wanted a nice plain-jane early car to tool around in, and this looks like it will do nicely. Will definitely be a fun contrast when parked next to my outrageous RSR project. I'm going on record now: This new car gets no flares, no fiberglass, no roll cage, no 345/35 rubber, and definitely no $500 rally lights. Maybe just some 128s.

Tim, I think you've got me beat! That's a much more purpose-built car than I am aiming for with my first '72 project car. Sounds great, though! Have you considered doing the flush hood that removes the fresh air intake? How about the front windshield rain gutter block-offs? There are still 345/35 tires available if you do want more rubber. Here's the big question: What are you doing to that 2.2 to squeeze that much go-juice out of it? I think Jack has the market cornered on mean early cars until you or I drop in a 3.6...and I know I won't be doing that for years on mine.

Can't wait to pick this thing up. I promise tons of pics on my latest rustbucket...err, '72T, as soon as I can.

my 2.2 is built to be a type 911/22 it makes 230 hp at 7800, I have detuned mine, I wont spin it as high, and as measured i have just 10:1 CR... I use 9.8:1 pistons. but with machining over the years the CR is higher

Flush hood. thought about it... need to get air in the car for me and defrosting

Have the rain gutter block offs

I dont use street tires... Yokahama still make some wide 15 inch slicks (320's)...... they are plentiful used after the SCCA runoffs.

I know a 3.6 might have a higher specific output and larger torque band.

lets just say I have 200 hp, a really light car and a gear selection that is useable.

The only missing link would be me...... being able to drive it..

Do the rain guter blockoffs really make a difference? I've been using duct, er, racers tape to cover over mine at Road America, but often wondered if there was any 'scientific evidence behind their use...
