Heat Exchanger Lever Stuck
Hello,
'86 Carrera Coupe Installed new heat exchangers a while back with new orange fabric pipe thingies. Finally got around to adjusting everything yesterday. The only problem I ran into was that the lever that actuates the cables pulling the exchanger valves closed seems stuck in place. I tried pinching off the cables in a valve closed position to see if it would lighten up the tension and NO GO! Any help? |

Is the flapper moving when the lever is pulled up or down? If you disconnect at the flapper box, can you move the flapper? Get under the car and ask a helper to move the lever if they can, something is blocking the flapper.

Something is definitely blocking it or it is stuck on something. The lever is the single piece actuating rod attached to the servo motor, no levers. It barely moves even when the cables to the flappers are given slack. Not sure if the cable in the tunnel is stuck on something. Pull the e-brake unit to see?

You should be able to open an inspection door on the side of the E brake console so you can see the action of the lever. I'd start there to see if the lever/servo motor was working okay, then look at the cables, then the flapper boxes. I had to replace the link arm on mine as the plastic socket had broken.

Yes, everything does work, motor, flappers. The only thing that does not is the lever that pulls the cables tight.

Are you talking about the lever that's directly connected to the electric motor?

Yes, single small lever that faces close to the 2 o'clock position looking at the access panel.

As I recall, that arm connects directly to the gearing of the motor. Disconnect the ball/joint link from the lever, then see if the lever moves. If it moves while disconnected, then the cables must be stuck further down the line. If the lever doesn't move while the motor is running or if it refuses to move with light resistance, then the gearing inside the motor must be stripped. Probably nylon gears inside, although I've not had to take one apart to see. Good luck...
