Jerry Seindfeld's Having a "Garage Sale"

The mother of all "garage sales", check out this announcement:

Gooding & Company Reveals the Complete List of Collector Cars To Be Offered from Jerry Seinfeld

Quote:
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (February 5, 2016) – Gooding & Company, the auction house acclaimed for selling the world’s most significant and valuable collector cars, is honored to announce the full selection of consignments from The Jerry Seinfeld Collection to be sold at the Amelia Island Auction on March 11, 2016. Enthusiasts and collectors will not want to miss this historic event as these superb examples cross the auction block.

“Mr. Seinfeld is recognized throughout the world as having acquired one of the finest Porsche collections ever assembled,” said David Gooding, President and Founder of Gooding & Company. “He has become known as the definitive Porsche connoisseur based on his passion and devotion to the marque. We at Gooding & Company share his reverence for Porsche and are proud to offer these truly incredible examples. This is a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire some of the finest Porsches ever to come to market.”

“Each one of these cars is a pinnacle of mechanical culture to me. Many are the best examples that exist in the world,” stated Jerry Seinfeld. “I’ve loved being entrusted with their care, and I’m proud of the level to which we have brought each and every one of these wonderful machines. Honestly, if I had unlimited time, space and attention span I would never sell one of them. And the reason I wanted to bid these cars farewell in this way is really just to see the look of excitement on the faces of the next owners who I know will be out of their minds with joy that they are going to get to experience them. My enthusiasm for this pursuit remains quite insane and I am very fortunate to have many other cars I get to look after.”

Jerry, you never sell the cars!

I am going to Amelia Island this year. I'd love to attend the auction just to see absurd amounts of money being spent frivolously on cars I'll never be able to afford.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

I wonder what he spent acquiring these cars and bringing them up to the condition they are today?

If I were him I would sell one of those old 1955 cars for one of these new fangled silver contraptions any day

I looked up to see how many cars he has in his collection. The most recent was from 2013 and it was reported he had 47 at the time. I think he will buy more! What else will he put in that garage in NYC?!

Maybe he sees the bubble popping and wants to cash out. When the prices drop he can buy those back as well as a few more!

It's doubt it's about money. He can never spend the money he already has in 10 lifetimes. He's over 60 and not getting younger.

As people age, they want fewer responsibilities burdens. Owning 50 cars is anathema to that, even if you're just writing checks, that's a lot of mindfulness to pay.
Kudos to him for turning 60, simplifying his life, and embarking upon the process of detaching from the material world.

Jerry is calling the market and thinning the herd. Probably wise to take a little off the top.

I'm sure Jerry will pick up a few unique cars in the years ahead but I'd bet something along these lines is what is really going on.

I loved his response when someone commented on how great he looked at 60 years old: "Well..., I don't work".
