Uh-oh! Key broke
So this just happened. Door key 1969 911. Problem is I only had one. What's the best solution to get a replacement? Can a locksmith key the door?

With those parts of the key a locksmith should be able to cut a new one.

Nope.
Go to the Porsche dealership with your chassis number and get one cut off the records. It worked for me. |

If it's just the two pieces then braze it back together and go to the hardware store to have a copy cut. Suggest you make a couple while you're at it.

Tons of P69A blanks on the electronic bay dot com for cheap. Local hardware can then cut them no problem... normally free of charge.

what i did with my 1966...
buy a couple blanks ... Non-Steering Wheel Porsche Parts Door & Ignition Key Blank, 356B/356C (K300) Locking Steering Wheel http://www.*********************.com/Door-Ignition-Key-Blank-911-912-65-69-p26864.html Take the broken piece and place it on the blank and trace it with a pen or mask it with some blue painters tape to duplicate the same form. Use a dremel to make the same indentations. Those keys and tumbler sets do not have that fine of tolerances so you should be okay! Last edited by pemz0r; 02-04-2016 at 10:01 AM.. |

Seriously guys. If you ferk about with trying to copy the worn out copy of a copy you are going to destroy the ignition lock with your best effort of a key. Get a proper one cut from the factory records. |

My father did the same thing to our 68 912 key. I have acquired several blanks that match this pattern. A local good key shop was able to cut a new key off the old key.
PM me if you need a blank and I can send you some pics to make sure my blanks match your original. I can sell you one or two if your interested. unless you have sourced another. Cheers Trevor

You have several options. SOME dealers can make you a new key from your VIN. I had to call several dealers - one "thought" they could for $150. A good locksmith can also do this from your VIN. My locksmith said he could for I think $80 with proof of ownership.
Your older style key should not be that difficult to cut. I took my 1981 SC key (it has a much more tedious profile) to a locksmith and the key would not work, and I wasted a blank. I finally found a good locksmith and he cut mine no problems from a copy. Another thread: New Key

I had this done at a dealership, none of the keys worked. Go to a good locksmith with your key.

If that key was indeed working before it broke, I'm guessing a small screw driver will too at this point.
