New Porsche Classic Dashboard issue
Hello all, wanted to solicit some feedback from anyone who's ordered one of the new Porsche classic Dashboards.
I recently ordered a bunch of interior parts for my 71. One of those products was a brand new Porsche Classic Dashboard. I was extremely excited to open the box today and I have to admit I'm very underwhelmed by the quatlity. Overall the Dashboard is stunning with one exception, there is an indention in the underlying structure right in the center where the later dashboards air vents go. For a concourse quality dashboard that costs so much I really dont understand how they can leave the factory this way. I called the company I purchased it from and they said I was not the first to complain and all the dashboards they are getting from Porsche are like that. How can this be?? Anybody else had this experience? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Unacceptable. I would ask to send it back for a full refund. Just because it's on other ones doesn't mean its ok. There are other suppliers that have it right.

I recently saw another one with the same problem, looks like they used a later model injected plastic piece and filled it with a different material that left the outline clearly visible.
That is totally unacceptable specially for the price paid. Did you order it at a Porsche dealership? I ordered mine at a dealership about two years ago and it is perfect in every way down to the original shine. The one I saw last week that had the same problem as yours was of a completely different quality, not only did it have the issue of the vent it also had a deep matte finnish that looked non original and not deep black. More like a very dark grey or antriazit. MD

The one I got for my '72 has a gap at the right A pillar you can stick your pinky in.

I agree with both of you that its completely unacceptable. Its clear as day on the dashboard so anybody in Quality Control should be able to see this issue before it leaves the factory.
I did not order it from a dealership I ordered it from AASE Sales |

I just called my local Porsche Dealer and they said if its a Genuine Porsche Classic part it should've come in a Porsche Classic box and have a Part# on it. The one I ordered died not come in a Porsche Classic box nor did it have any part#'s on it.
Here's a link to what I purchased. Its clearly represented as a "Genuine Porsche Classic Part" (New) 911 Black Dashboard - 1969-75 | Aase Sales Porsche Parts Center I'm not sure what to make of this?? Anyhow, I already called AASE to setup a return. I will be ordering from my dealership and wait another 4-6 weeks ![]() |

They probably got it from Lakewell. I got a supposed Porsche Classic '72 outside mirror from Asse and the reflection reminds me of an lsd trip.

Thats pretty sketchy to present it as Genuine and then ship me a repro. WTF?? I thought these guys had pretty high standards from my dealings in the past.

If you want "top drawer" restoration stuff, check out Lakewell in Belgium. I have only bought a complete carpet set from them, but it is awesome and even with shipping from Europe was very competitive in price.
Here's their dash unit and with the great Euro to Dollar exchange rate we are now enjoying, the price is not bad. Pelican Techweenie has a couple of new Lakewell dashes for sale on the Used Parts forum, but I think his price is a little high. Anyway, check Lakewell out, register to their site and then you can work out an order, put it in your cart to get a price quote. Complete New Dashboard Porsche 911 EDIT: just did a trial price on a '71 dash. Dash 890 Euros, ship 129 Euros = total delivered US $1110.71 (1 euro=$1.09) Not bad compared to $1450 for the AASE one!!

I ordered a dash from Lakewell. Great fit and finish and customer service. Good price point too. Definitely doesn't have that fill hole for the AC vent. Mine is nice and flat.

If you look a the pics on the Lakewell site, their dash doesn't look like the AASE one. The speaker grill perforations are completely different (also more correct) and the Lakewell has a much longer "skirt" around the back! Complete New Dashboard Porsche 911

I don't think AASE get's theirs from Lakewell, the Lakewell ones are pretty nice, but if you ask me, get the $1,350.00 from for Porsche dealer. It is perfect and it is always nice to open a Porsche part with their part number on it.

I guess the biggest issue is why is Aase selling this as a genuine porsche part when it's clearly not. That bothers me.

After you've received your refund, maybe you should have a conversation with them and ask them that very question. The only explanation that makes sense is that they are misrepresenting the parts.

Here is a guy that makes dashboards to such quality that Porsche Classic wanted to buy them from him, but they could not agree on the conditions.
Unfortunately in Swedish, but send him a mail. Insrumentpanel till Porsche 911 - Rye:s VW and Porsche 356 Garage Haven't seen them myself, but they are supposed to be very good, with a price around 500 euro.

Just an update. I received my new dash from Lakewell today. Its on another level compared to the Porsche Classic piece of junk. Save yourself some money and order from Lakewell until Porsche decides to make a quality product.
BTW, It did take about 2 months to get my order but thats ok for the quality. |
