3.2 Distributor Removal

I want to remove the distributor to gain better access the oil line to cam shaft carrier.

Do I need to set the motor to TDC?
Do Not need for timing light when I reinstall, correct?

I have the Bentley, but do not see anything about this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes... Move the engine to TDC and mark the rotor position in the distributor before taking it out.
As you remove it the rotor will turn. As you pull it out mark the spot the rotor moves to when it stops moving.

You don't need a timing light because the DME does the timing in a 3.2 BUT you should install it so it's exactly the same position.

To reinstall move the rotor to the second mark and install. It should rotate back to the first mark.
If it's even one tooth out it wont line up so don't worry. If you were careful removing and marking it you should have no issues.

Just go slow. You'll be fine.

+1 move to TDC, take a pic just to make certain, then remove.

Distributor Removal, 87, 3.2

Can someone offer any advice on how to get the distributor started coming out, Gently ?
I want to pull mine for some simple maintenance activities. I know about setting the engine at TDC, I'm just interested in how to get it started coming out. I had it out several years ago for engine rebuild so I know it can move. Removed the nut and washer and did some tugging and wiggling, not coming out yet. I haven't shot any BP blaster on yet. Assume I should avoid prying for now.

I've got a variety of pry bars like that, I guess what-ever will fit the space used gently. There is a generic name for that tool, can't remember what it is ? I'll shoot some PB on at lunch and try again this evening.
