LOVE and the 911 - no poll

Folks:

I'm 36 years old now and my daughter just turned 4. My '72 is in the shop getting a new Bosch fuel pump and associated hardware and labor coming out to just under $900 US dollars - pump was spewing fuel.

My first marraige failed. I will not blame Motor Meister, my previous habit of smoking cigarettes or any other host of potential problems.

My statement and question is: When a male (or female) finds love and companionship, what happens to the human -> machine relationship between us folks and our mechanical loves?

Since I met a most amazing women (who I think loves me), I have spent less time visiting PP. And, since this new love has entered my life, I have been looking at GT2s and modern Turbos and not RSs and RSRs!!!!

Tell me how the love of a women has affected your Porsche life and how the woman has influenced you to get a cup holder (Hi Jack!) . . .

Yours faithfully,

Kurt

using 20/20 hindsight and a good bit of revisionist history, my lovely wife kept me from making the mistake of wallowing in Carreradom, and instead put me on the righteous path of the SCWDP.

Can I get a hallelulia?

Here's my theory. The intense fascination with the woman will last 90 days, unless she has some great asset that she's withholding. Then it's a chess game, and the intensity will last until there's a winner.

After that, the 911's allure will draw you back. Love moves your heart, but horsepower moves your whole world. The 911 will never be as important (or as intense) as the love of a good woman, but it also won't need quite as much maintenance and attention.

Also: you've got to take your car to the track. Not tracking a 911 is like being in a celibate relationship with a supermodel.

And the cupholders were my idea, not hers.

Todd, that's hilarious, , and it's a timely subject since I was just thinking about it today. I think that a lot of women dig Porsches and think that they are sexy, but initially look upon men who drive them with a weary eye. Nothing you can't overcome, but a minor hurtle none the less. Maybe real party-girl types are attracted right away to them, but that is not what I usually pursue. (At least for relationships).

I had a disasterous dating experience this past year which I certainly can't blame on the car, but she did get drunk once and babbled something along the lines of, "why don't you go pick up some young chicks in your Porsche", (I'm 43), it really caught me off guard. I had never acted in a way around her to explain that one.

Oh well, still love the car.

I guess this is just as good a time as any to come out of the closet...

I'm car gay

Yes, it's true. I much prefer the company of gears and grease than that of the fairer sex. Many times I've turned out outright requests for sex, in favor of working on whatever car project I had going on. In fact, right this minute I could be over @ Import Grrrl's house gettin' busy, but instead I'm putting together a new transmission and rear suspension for my '61 double cab.

It would have to be a very interesting chick who can distract me from my cars. Many have tried, all have failed.

Kurt - glad to see you're still around - been awhile.

Watch yourself on this one and take Thom's advice with some consideration - car gay may be a bit over the edge but always know where your loyalties stand - the 911 won't break your heart. And that 3.2 will keep you just a few car lengths ahead of the SCs.

Hehehe, makes me nostalgic. The first girl I broke up with in high school was jealous of my car ('65 Impala). Like Jack said, the car will wait until that first really exciting period of distraction is over with a new woman (much like your friends, but this relationship is stronger than that). It'll still be there for you to pick up right where you left off.

I think I may have to stay in the closet, but those of us who are...., we know it in our hearts...

Philistine Alert.............

Inanimate objects [read your 911] are the only things in life which you can ignore completely for a period, and will reward you with the fullness of their being when you return. No retribution, no regret, no reticence.

Sentient beings [read horses, dogs, and other higher beings] will give you grief in varying degrees.

At some point, the grief/gratification ratio turns posititve. Thats LUUUVE baby.

Perfectly said.

Since I tracked my 930, our whole relationship has changed. We are closer, understand each other better, and I know her limits... I wish I could say the same about my wife!

My ex divorced me 6 months ago after I went and bought my first 911 that I've been wanting since I was 9yo, that's really supportive isn't it? Go figure!! She said "You're replacing me with your car, and you're just gonna drive around and pick up a bunch of bimbos for the night". Well she's now gone, but the car is still here and loves me as much as I love her!
I guess now I'm just gonna have to drive around and pickup a bunch of "bimbos".
Some guy who had a gorgeous Twin Turbo, a 73 RS and a Speedster once told me "The Porsche will get you women, but a woman will take the Porsches away"...sorry if I sound so jaded, but no woman is taking my 911 away, I don't care if she's a supermodel. Jack is absolutely right, no matter how hot the girl is, the excitement might last 90 days, after that it's the chess game.

Peace!

In my case, the woman knows I can not be without the cars, no question, and she respects that. Don't we all need some kind of activity to let steam out? I can't possibly yell at my patients, or at her!?
Of course it helps a lot that she loves them a lot, and from time to time, she gives me a thorough spanking at the track. I think Jack said "like riping your arm off and hitting you with it"
Now if I could get the speedlines out of the living rooom, "the request" wont be long coming, and unlike Thom, I can't refuse that (I'll wait for the RS to be finished before)
That was at the Nurburgring. I'm still vincing at the humiliation... :

I've been married for 16 years and mentioned to my wife in August that I'd kind of like to get another Porsche 911. Had one long before I met her and a 944 in the 80's. She is NOT a car person at all and said "go for it". I picked up my 87 911 in October.

Now ( at least when there wasn't snow on the ground) she says, "can we go for a ride?" and on the weekends its "Are you going to be working on your car today?"

I definitely got a keeper. She is nervous about driving it but that will come. I'm working on an air compressor now.....she isn't really receptive to that yet.

Man, after reading of the failed relationships and the horror stories on this thread (and others on similar threads) all I can say is keep on trying guys - you'll find the right women eventually!

For those of us that have we know we are members of a special club

Got to tell you, after 31 years of marraige (same woman) and 31 yesrs of Porsche ownership (1 356, 2 914's, 1 944 and 3 911's), that has got to be a pearl of wisdom for the ages. Well said, and I hope I can quote you without copyright enfringements!!!

Maybe in some strange parallel universe. Or perhaps something in the water where you live? I think most are ratio-challenged.
